It's been a brilliant fifty from Joe Root, showing the virtue of rotating the strike but also being able to hit the odd four. Each team has their glue and Joe Root certainly is that for England. They don't smash every ball but they score as quickly as anybody.

That's fifty from Joe Root. This is his kind of surface, his kind of situation. An innings of substance will be integral to England's hopes here. He brings up his half-century with a faint glance through the vacant third man area off Colin de Grandhomme. Then off the final ball of the over he cuts square of the wicket for two. Confident stuff.

Colin Munro continues and keeps it tight with some full length deliveries. England pinch a run off the last ball of the over after a shy at the stumps deflects into a gap. Good alertness from Ben Stokes to nick a single.
Thanks Jamie, it's finally poised in Hamilton at the moment. England coped pretty well in ODIs in Australia without Ben Stokes but in matches like this you sense he can be the difference maker.

Nigel Cobbett: Morgan is the darling of the selectors and unusually got a decent score recently so he will be allowed to give his wicket away cheaply 20 consecutive times without fear of being dropped. That's the only reason he is the captain.

This is the phase of the game I quite enjoy, you need to try to raise those levels of runs with the spinners on. See if you can run two and respond with the running. A clever batsmen alters his position and attempts to access different shots. It's the period where the best batsmen shine.
