  1. Eng 217-5published at 40 overs

    Buttler 47, Ali 18

A good over for England. First up, Moeen Ali adjusts late to pull a short ball from Trent Boult to the boundary despite a dive from Colin Murno. Moeen then sends the ball streaking down the ground for four with a baseball-style biff. Jos Buttler then gets in on the act as he gets on top of Boult and whips it square for another boundary. 10 overs to go.

You've got to set your marker down at 260 minimum but England have a lot to come so they can definitely go beyond that.

  3. Eng 203-5published at 39 overs

    Buttler 43, Moeen 9

Confident from Moeen Ali who shows some good intent to Colin Munro. The Worcestershire batsman dispatches the medium pacer back over his head for six. Off the final ball of the over Jos Buttler chips it over the top. A ripple of applause round the ground as England pass the 200 mark.

Moeen will be feeling the pressure. He has been in poor form in the Test matches and ODIs in Australia and it has been his bowling that has been keeping him in the side.

  5. Eng 181-5published at 38 overs

    Buttler 40, Moeen 2

Trent Boult running in with plenty of gusto, but this Hamilton surface is perhaps not quite suited to his style. A wide and a single apiece for Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali off the over.

Lee, Sunderland: Regarding Nigel Cobbett's Morgan comment, the bloke averages 37.5 with 34 fifties and 11 tons. There's no fluke in the fact that he's selected and he's no darling either - he's ranked number 25 in the world and so is there on merit. At number 4 he has the unenviable task of either steadying an innings or taking it away from the opposition - there's no middle ground for him which makes his average all the more impressive.

  7. Eng 189-5published at 37 overs

    Buttler 39, Moeen 1

This is canny bowling from Colin Murno, who is mixing up his pace in the middle overs. Moeen Ali is off the mark with a slightly miscued pull. Trent Boult limbering up to come back into the attack now.

It's phenomenal, the power and timing of Buttler. I've never played with a guy who can strike the ball from the word go. That ability is class to watch - what a player.

  9. Eng 186-5published at 36 overs

    Buttler 37, Moeen 0

Jos Buttler shows it's not all about his power hitting as he effortlessly pushes one through the covers for four off Tim Southee. A glorious piece of timing from the England wicketkeeper. He's playing the situation well.

Moeen Ali has furrowed brow as he prods the pitch after failing to pick a slower ball from Southee which dribbles through to the wicketkeeper.

I would absolutely hate to face Munro, I'd much prefer the 95mph Dale Steyn or Morne Morkel.

  11. Eng 181-5published at 35 overs

    Buttler 32, Moeen 0

Moeen Ali is the new man at the crease and he safely negotiates the last two deliveries of Colin Munro's over. Does Jos Buttler change his approach now?

It was a brilliant piece of bowling, a knuckle ball and it can be a bit harder for the batsman to pick. It was a brilliant knock from Root, the glue that holds England together - but he is absolutely livid with himself.

    Root b Munro 71 (Eng 181-5)

Joe Root is back on his way to the pavilion. Colin Munro whoops with delight after deceiving Root, who is through the shot way too early, with a knuckle ball which clatters into his off stump. Root trudges off shaking his head.

Joe Root drives uppishly. Mitchell Santner dives to his right at cover but is unable to pull off a stunning catch.

  15. Eng 170-4published at 33 overs

    Root 67, Buttler 29

Colin Munro is brought back into the attack to bring back some control. But he lets one drift down leg side and Jos Buttler gets enough bat on it to find the boundary through fine leg. Munro curses. England's innings getting some momentum now.

Much like Jason Roy before him, if you go slightly too full with Jos Buttler, consider it gone. When Buttler comes in he has this destructive side, he looks friendly and mild but he knows he can smack it out the park.

  17. 6 runs

    Eng 168-4published at 32 overs

    Root 65, Buttler 24

That's more like it from Jos Buttler! He quickly picks up the length of Ish Sodhi's second delivery which is slightly too full and strikes it clean as a whistle straight back over the bowler's head for six. He isn't finished there, either. Sodhi's next two deliveries are smashed over cow corner for six as well.

He flicks one of his hip for a single off the last ball of the over to pinch the strike. After looking scratchy initially, Buttler has raced on to 24 off 15 balls.

It's good for the spinners on a wicket that is not coming on to the bat to test the big hitters by enticing them to hit over the top before their eye is in.

  19. Eng 148-4published at 31 overs

    Root 65, Buttler 5

England's big-hitters really struggling to adjust to the nature of this pitch Jos Buttler attempts a reverse sweep and has a lucky escape after it deflects off his glove before trickling down through to the boundary. Ross Taylor, stood at first slip, thought he was in with a sniff there.
