  1. NZ 40-3published at 11 overs

    Target 285

If you're just waking up, England put in by New Zealand and Joe Root made 71 from 75 balls, with Jos Buttler adding five sixes in his 79 from 65 balls. Only 12 from Ben Stokes on his international return but he has taken a neat catch and we are sure to see him with the ball soon.

A delightful cover drive off Willey brings compact left-hander Latham a second boundary.

  2. NZ 28-3published at 10 overs

    Target 285

England's 41-1 after 10 overs seemed relatively sedate but it looks a lot better now. Just one from the Woakes over and the very important wicket of Guptill, the highest runscorer in the T20 tri-series.

England are well on top now as they get a huge wicket in the form of Martin Guptil, who is the man in form following the T20 tri-series. All he could was lean on his drive to a ball from Chris Woakes and hit on the up to the hands of Ben Stokes. New Zealand are now in a bit of trouble.

Ross Taylor the new man for the Kiwis, joining big-hitting Guptill, who has made 13 from 26 balls. A big partnership.

A well-deserved wicket for David Willey. He has been superb with his lines and his lengths have been excellent. Kane Williamson looking for a bit of width which just wasn't there. The pace of the ball was dying as well so that's a good catch by Jos Buttler.

  7. wicket

    Williamson c Buttler b Willey 8 (NZ 27-2)

The prolific Williamson departs, trying to run one down to third man but only succeeding in edging to the keeper. Eight from 23 balls for the captain, who may well be lamenting his decision to chase under the lights. The required rate, which began at 5.70, is now up at 6.26.

  8. NZ 26-1published at 8 overs

    Target 285

Stokes is patrolling the cover region and throws in venomously to the keeper. Williamson punches his first boundary off the back foot but Woakes responds well and there have been 19 dot balls in his first four overs.

England will be trying to rough up the ball, shine the other and hope Tom Curran can get it to reverse around later in the innings.

  10. NZ 22-1published at 7 overs

    Target 285

The floodlights, which are shaped like a 'gentleman's protector', are beginning to take effect now but there is still plenty of sunshine bathing Seddon Park as Willey continues, with just a sprinkling of singles resulting. Two fours and a six from the first seven overs.

At the moment England are doing are exactly what New Zealand did when England were batting. They are keeping their discipline, bowling to their fields, finding a bit of shape and asking plenty of questions of the New Zealand batsmen. New Zealand have got more than a few players who can cause England problems.

  12. NZ 19-1published at 6 overs

    Target 285

Williamson, a man with 10 ODI centuries and 33 fifties to his name, has only two from 12 balls and it's another fine over from Woakes, who has 1-9 from his opening three.

  13. NZ 18-1published at 5 overs

    Target 285

Fortune for Guptill. There is a man at short mid-off almost standing on the side of the cut strip, but there is no slip for Willey and that's where a routine edge goes, en route to the boundary.

I think 250-260 is probably a par score given the pace of the wicket so perhaps England are in a better position than people back home will think when they check the score upon waking up.

  15. NZ 14-1published at 4 overs

A beautiful evening in Hamilton, the mass of dark cloud has gone and the sunshine is emphasising some impressive mature trees which frame the grass banks around the ground. Woakes is up at 85mph in the much-fabled right areas and captain Williamson cannot get him away.

Excellent from Chris Woakes, who went across him on this occasion. A big wicket for England as New Zealand do not have too many power hitters and Munro is one of them.

But he doesn't. Another step down the pitch, trying to hit over mid-off this time, and it's a routine edge to Buttler. A big wicket for England.
