  1. 6 runs

    NZ 6-0published at 1.2 overs

Nothing watchful from the compact Munro against Woakes - second ball and he takes a step down the wicket and flicks it over square-leg for a mighty six, measured at 85m. If he gets going it could be explosive stuff.

  2. NZ 0-0published at 1 over

    Target 285

Guptill and Munro hit 76 in the first six overs against England in the T20 but the opening over from the left-arm seamer Willey, with a slip in place, is watchfully played out.

Mark Wood is missing with an ankle problem, and his pace worked well in Australia. He provided the X-factor, ruthlessness and intent to the attack up front. Hopefully his injury isn't too serious.

Thanks Tim. Pizza last night and it will probably last me for the next two days as well, but it was a decent sized one. So a rate of 5.70 for New Zealand and it will be David Willey in the late afternoon sunshine to bowl the first over.

I'm off to eat some porridge now. So my colleague Jamie Lillywhite, recharged and refreshed from scoffing some pizza, will guide you through the early part of New Zealand's response with the bat.

Around 10 minutes until play resumes in Hamilton. There's an interesting debate on TMS about the likes of Alex Hales and Adil Rashid deciding to no longer play red ball cricket for their counties.

If you're just joining us, New Zealand put England in and after a slow start to the innings, Joe Root's 71 from 75 balls gave them an excellent platform. Ben Stokes made only 12 on his international return but Jos Buttler hammered five sixes in his 79 to help them to 285-8 from 50 overs.

Ian: England are 30 runs short at least here. No other team in the world would drop Alex Hales. I don't care how good a capt Morgan is, We didn't win the Champions Trophy & we cant afford any passengers in ODI. Drop Morgan & make Root captain. NZ will win this comfortably.

A low-key return for Ben Stokes with the bat on his comeback for England then. It is unlikely he will bowl his full allocation of overs in Hamilton, but he will surely have a big part to play with the ball in the second half of this match.

It's a good total in these conditions. New Zealand are going to have to play well to get near this. Root was up near a run a ball and it shows a genuine batsman is vital.

  13. New Zealand need 286 to winpublished at 04:35 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2018

England would certainly have had 300 runs in mind heading into the final few overs but New Zealand bowled quite superbly at death as they kept Jos Buttler quiet and smothered David Willey at the other end.

A modest return with the bat from both Stokesy and Woakesy! Let's hope for mayhem with the ball.

This should be defendable for England, especially with their spinners.

  16. England review - not outpublished at 50 overs

    Eng 285-8

The final ball of the innings from Tim Southee and David Willey steps across his stumps and attempts to whack it to leg. Southee appeals and it is reviewed by the umpire. However, HotSpot shows there was an inside edge so England's scampered single counts.

Buttler goes but he has done enough. It hasn't been the best and most pretty or muscular innings we have seen him play.

    Buttler run out (Southee)

A slice of fortune off Tim Southee's first ball as David Willey flashes hard and an inside edge reaches the rope. Jos Buttler then frees up his arms to hoik Southee square of the wicket for a six.

However, the England wicketkeeper is run out off the penultimate ball of the innings as he sets off to try to get on strike but Willey does not set off.

Particularly in New Zealand with the shorter boundaries, it is such a small margin for the bowlers.
