Glorious from Kane Williamson. he drives effortlessly through the covers from Craig Overton's fourth delivery of the over. The ball does not quite have enough power on it to make the boundary so he and Henry Nicholls run three.

The lights have completely taken over now folks, and there are some areas of the ground which are slightly darker but there's still an hour scheduled of play.

James Doe: Remember when we laughed at Australia for getting bowled out for 60 at Trent Bridge in 2015? This must be what it felt like for them. Utter disgrace. Bayliss must give way to someone else in the Test format.

Just woken up and seen the disastrous score. Something needs to change big time and fast. If England cricket are losing the appetite for young cricketers in England will just go.

England had a devastating spell under lights at Adelaide with the ball during the Ashes when swing and seam caused Australia's batsmen all kinds of problems. However, it just isn't happening for them against New Zealand at Eden Park at the moment. Two runs off Stuart Broad's latest over.

This Test team has become more and more spineless after each winter away from home. Total revamp of both players and mentality needed like in the ODIs

  8. NZ 138-3published at 53 overs

    Lead by 80

Craig Overton slants one into the hip of Kane Williamson and the ball brushes his thigh guard and races down to the boundary for leg byes. Overton gets one to rear up from his final delivery but the edge of Henry Nicholls' bat proves elusive. Overton curses his luck.

  9. Why hasn't Stokes bowled?published at 07:20 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2018

    Simon Mann
    BBC Test Match Special commentator

We understand Stokes has been suffering with back spasms which worsened during practice last night, but it's possible he may bowl tomorrow or later in the Test if his back eases up.

This middle order that are facing England right now are not always comprehensive. You just sense that one more wicket here - with Williamson being the preferred one - and England are back in this game with a bit of a sniff.

  11. NZ 133-3published at 52 overs

    Lead by 75

Kane Williamson gets himself in a bit of a mess as he gets caught between ducking and pulling out the way to a slightly shorter delivery from James Anderson. He manages to fend the ball off without really having his eye on it.

England have a couple of fielders in the deep and a few balls later Anderson bounces Williamson who controls a pull shot to guide the ball square. England running out of ideas to dismiss Williamson so maybe need something a bit more unconventional.

Jack Mendel: Kane Williamson’s score in this innings could comfortably be 3 or 4 times that of England’s total. Unlike England batsmen in the last few years - he understands the concept of converting 50s to big 100s - regularly. I don’t remember the last Joe Root Test ton

The team talk for New Zealand's innings was off the back of that England display when a number of them got out tight to the crease.

"Move your feet and get forward lads."

  14. NZ 132-3published at 51 overs

    Lead by 74

Craig Overton gets Henry Nicholls to push at a delivery that's just back of a length from the fourth delivery of a tight over. It finds the edge of the left-handed Nicholls' bat but does not carry through to the slips. A maiden from Overton.

James Gulleford: Root has to go as captain, Cook looks past his best. The team needs fresh faces and a new start. Broad and Anderson can't be around forever either. Moeen in terrible form too. Shame on the ECB for a winter tour lasting from October until April! Not fair on the team!

  16. Not outpublished at 07:12 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2018

Williamson did not offer a shot but it felt a little desperate from England. The ball tracking shows the ball going over the stumps. Anderson did not look convinced from the outset. Not the best use of a review for England. They have used both of them up now.

  17. England reviewpublished at 50 overs

    Williamson on 72

James Anderson continues to Kane Williamson. The Lancashire paceman comes wide of the crease for a few deliveries before he comes in close under the umpire's nose. His final delivery clips Williamson, playing no stroke, on the pad and England review it.

Taylor immediately got out after the ball had been changed to a short delivery and Nicholls, who is good at pulling and cutting, nearly gloved one.

As the light descends and we near the close of play, the ball might rise up off the surface and hurry onto the bat.

England are as close the the nadir of their Test existence as I can remember. So many bad decisions. Burdening Joe Root with captaincy, yet to find an opener after four years of trying, yet to find a number three after a similar time trying, needing a spinner, a consistent third seamer. Moeen Ali's form wouldn't have him dropped if we weren't so desperate. Alastair Cook, Root and Anderson close to the end. Absolutely as shambolic as it can get.

Thanks Matt. While the milkman was starting his rounds earlier this morning there was carnage at Eden Park. Things have settled down a little bit, but England are facing a massive uphill struggle to get back in this Test match.
