  1. Magoffin survives appealpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Hampshire 290 & 244 v Worcestershire 211 & 124-9

There's a confident appeal by Kyle Abbott, who is striving for a five-for after returning to the attack for Hampshire, but Steve Magoffin is given the benefit of the doubt. Worcestershire now just the small matter of 200 short of their target, but Travis Head is looking good on 42.

  2. Gale confident for Notts gamepublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

Yorkshire v Essex - match abandoned (5 points each)

After Yorkshire's game against Essex was abandoned without a ball being bowled, attention has turned to whether the waterlogged outfield can recover for the start of their next Championship fixture against Notts on Friday.

"We should be fine because the forecast is good for the week," Yorkshire head coach Andrew Gale said.

"Someone told me it's going to be warmer than Ibiza this week! That's the sort of weather we need to dry the ground off. If that comes, we'll be fine. I am confident it will go ahead.

"The outfield has got better, but only slowly. We just haven't had any drying weather."

  3. 100 runs

100 partnership between Brown and Wiesepublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Warwickshire 299 Sussex 295-7

Sussex continue to score at a rate of over four runs per over, as David Wiese takes the eighth wicket partnership past 100 with three runs off Chris Wright.

Sussex close to parity now and Wiese three short of his best Championship score for the county. He's up to 67.

  4. Head survives hat-trick ballpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Hampshire 290 & 244 v Worcestershire 211 & 116-9

Worcestershire are still clinging on at the Ageas Bowl after Travis Head denies Fidel Edwards a hat-trick. Head has moved on to 34, but he only has last man Steve Magoffin for company now.

  5. NOTTS BEAT LANCASHIRE BY SIX WICKETSpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 16 April 2018
    Breaking

    Nottinghamshire 222 & 10-4 (20 pts) beat Lancashire 158 & 73 (3 pts)

Just for a moment, I wondered if there was a chance.

Nottinghamshire make very hard work of chasing down 10 to win, but they get there in the end despite Lancashire seamer Joe Mennie's 3-4, Riki Wessels scoring the winning run.

Final tally for 90 minutes of cricket at Old Trafford today: 25 runs, 12 wickets.

Nottinghamshire 20 points, three for Lancashire.

  6. Surely Notts?published at 12:24 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Lancashire 158 & 73 v Nottinghamshire 222 & 5-3 (3.2 overs)

    They can't, can they?

Nottinghamshire aren't quite over the line yet.

  7. Edwards on a hat-trickpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Hampshire 290 & 244 v Worcestershire 211 & 101-9

Fidel Edwards has Ed Barnard lbw and then Joe Leach caught behind for a duck from his next delivery, which leaves him off the pitch.

He'll be on a hat-trick at the start of his next over, if he gets a chance to bowl it.

  8. Postpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

For any of you thinking we'd nodded off, we have been updating just as feverishly as usual, but technical problems meant there was a lag in the updates appearing on the site. Apologies for that.

  9. wicket

WICKET Cox (b Wheal) 0published at 12:14 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Hampshire 290 & 244 v Worcestershire 211 & 100-7

Brad Wheal strikes and the wheels are well and truly coming off for Worcestershire.

A boundary by new batsman Ed Barnard takes them to three figures, but Hampshire look eager to wrap this up before lunch, if possible.

  10. wicket

WICKET Rhodes (c Amla b Edwards) 1published at 12:07 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Hampshire 290 & 244 v Worcestershire 211 & 95-6

George Rhodes won't look back on that innings with any pleasure - 40 balls faced for one run, and now he's gone. Ben Cox is the new batsman, with Travis Head unbeaten on 24. It's a long way to 324 now for Worcestershire with only four wickets left.

  11. 50 runs

50 For David Wiesepublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Warwickshire 299 v Sussex 271-7

Wiese has taken a liking to Jeetan Patel and sweeps the spinner down to fine leg for a run-a-ball 50, with one six and eight fours. Sussex only 28 behind now, but a draw remains the most likely outcome.

  12. Notts under waypublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Lancashire 158 & 73 v Nottinghamshire 222 & 1-0

Nottinghamshire are 10% of the way to their target.

Steven Mullaney takes a single off the first ball of their second innings, leaving his side needing only nine runs to complete a remarkable victory.

  13. wicket

WICKET Mennie (c Moores b Gurney) 0published at 11:58 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Lancashire 158 & 73 (34.2 overs) v Nottinghamshire 222

Lancashire have broken our live text software.

Apologies for the delay in getting these updates to you, but I think the speed of publishing all these wickets has been too much for our poor old system to take.

Joe Mennie is the last man out, a waft outside the off stump to Harry Gurney carrying through to Tom Moores, who has five catches in the innings.

Gurney finishes with 6-25, as Lancashire lose eight wickets for 15 runs.

  14. GLOUCESTERSHIRE BEAT KENT BY FIVE WICKETSpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 16 April 2018
    Breaking

    Kent 64 & 153 v Gloucestershire 110 & 108-5

As Mr Punch used to say - and possibly still does - 'That's the way to do it'.

Benny Howell drills a ball from Harry Podmore through mid-off for four to bring up a 90-ball half-century and that is the final action at the Spitfire Ground.

It's an excellent way to start the summer for Gloucestershire, and Kent can't really have too many complaints after being bowled out in just 18.5 overs on the opening day.

Howell finishes with 50 not out, which should have erased the memory of a third-ball duck in the first innings, while New Zealander Matt Henry had match figures of 7-70 for the home side.

  15. 50 runs

50 partnership between Brown and Wiesepublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Warwickshire 299 v Sussex 245-7

Warwickshire spinner Jeetan Patel bowls with one slip and a short leg, only to be hammered down the ground by David Wiese for the first six of the innings.

The next delivery is crunched through point to bring up the 50 partnership with Ben Brown in just 11.2 overs.

  16. wicket

WICKET Vilas (c Wessels b Ball) 6published at 11:53 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Lancashire 158 & 73-9 (33.5 overs) v Nottinghamshire 222

    Oh dear.

It's seven wickets for 15 runs this morning at Old Trafford, with Jake Ball now one away from recording 10 wickets in a match for the first time in his career.

It's an absolutely atrocious shot from Dane Vilas in the circumstances, a wild swipe at a full delivery flying off the edge to Riki Wessels at first slip.

  17. wicket

WICKET Van Buuren (b Stevens) 9published at 11:52 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Kent 64 & 153 v Gloucestershire 110 & 102-5

Having said that Gloucestershire are almost home, they promptly lose another wicket as Graeme van Buuren drags a ball from Darren Stevens into his stumps. It may have bounced lower than he expected. Mind you, one big hit now and it's job done.

  18. Gloucestershire almost therepublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Kent 64 & 153 v Gloucestershire 110 & 101-4

The mini-crisis is over for Gloucestershire after the loss of three quick wickets. Graeme van Buuren takes two at the start of another Matt Henry and follows it with three from the next delivery. Just seven needed by the visitors now - and Benny Howell is four short of a half-century.

  19. wicket

Five-wicket haul for Gurneypublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Lancashire 158 & 73-8 (32.4 overs) v Nottinghamshire 222

I'm running out of ways to describe all these wickets.

Tom Bailey is the latest Lancashire batsman to go, Harry Gurney finding his outside edge and Tom Moores taking his fourth catch of the innings behind the stumps.

That gives Gurney figures of 5-25 and leaves Lancashire eight down, leading by nine runs.

  20. Hard road for Rhodespublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 16 April 2018

    Hampshire 290 & 244 v Worcestershire 211 & 84-5

Worcestershire are digging in at the Ageas Bowl following the loss of two early wickets. Travis Head has 15 not out, but George Rhodes has faced 21 balls so far without scoring. Pace bowler Fidel Edwards is now into his first spell of the day.
