Tea being taken at Chelmsford, or to be more accurate ice cream and cold drinks.

Peter Siddle and Jamie Porter with a last wicket partnership of 37 helping Essex to reach 150 in their first innings before the run out of Jamie Porter.

Lancashire won't be too discouraged with that final wicket stand as it seemed to show that batting became a little easier.

After last weeks second innings collapse the Red Rose top order have a chance to make amends this afternoon in what could be a long and hot final session of the day for Essex.

Wonderful stuff from Matt Renshaw, who drives Daryl Mitchell for four to move to 100 off 137 balls.

He's held the innings together on debut to score an eighth first-class century.

  9. The Durham fightback beginspublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Durham 91 v Kent 88-4 (25.1 overs)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Having been dismissed for just 91 Durham have now fought back with the ball. Although Daniel Bell-Drummond fell for a duck in the 3rd over, lbw to Chris Rushworth, Kent recovered and had 67 on the board before the next wicket fell.

But the departure of Sean Dickson for 41 has sparked a mini collapse. Paul Collingwood took a wicket in his first over as he bowled Joe Denly for eight. The deficit was 12 at that point and 11 when the next wicket fell as Nathan Rimmington returned to the Durham attack and bowled Zak Crawley for one.

At 88-4 Kent are still three runs behind.

  10. Maiden five-wicket haul for Barnardpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 190-8 (53 overs) v Worcestershire

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

A maiden five-wicket haul for Ed Barnard as Matt Renshaw closes in on a debut century for Somerset. 190-8 is a much fairer reflection of state of pitch than 105-3 at lunch.

Barnard now goes off for a rest having bowled a wonderful spell.

  11. Essex play rash shots in helpful conditionspublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 150 (50 overs) v Lancashire

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport at Chelmsford

A spirited last-wicket partnership of 37 between Peter Siddle and Jamie Porter put some respectability on the Essex score with Siddle finishing top scorer with an unbeaten 33.

Lancashire bowled well in helpful pitch conditions, but at least three of the Essex batsmen contributed to their downfalls with some rash shots.

It will be interesting to see how Lancashire bat on the surface and whether there are any scars from last week's collapse to Nottinghamshire.

  12. Division Two updatepublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

So two sides have already been bowled out today. One after being put in, the other having opted to do so.

Kent are now 79-2 in reply to Durham's measly 91 all out at Chester-le-Street.

Northants as mentioned earlier, were dismissed for just 147 at Wantage Road against Warwickshire. 6-35 for Ryan Sidebottom for the Bears.

  13. wicket

WICKET Porter (run out) 4published at 15:13 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 150 (50 overs) v Lancashire

Peter Siddle was doing the business at one end but as he tried to keep the strike from the last ball of that Matt Parkinson over, he sold his partner Jamie Porter short.

The Essex seamer is left metres short of getting in to his ground and he is the last man out.

Last wicket adds 37 for the champions, but they take no batting points from that and Lancashire bag all the bonus points.

    Over to the Essex bowlers....

Peter Siddle again uses his long handle to prize a few more runs out for Essex in this disappointing first innings effort.

He launches Matt Parkinson for a maximum out of the ground.

  15. wicket

WICKET - Davey (lbw b Barnard) 4published at 15:12 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

Dave: No openers really putting their hands up for Stoneman's England place so far, appreciate early doors and tough conditions but...

Indeed. Haseeb Hameed has not been forgotten, but Middlesex's Nick Gubbins is perhaps the next in line after impressing in the North v South series. His injury may give others a chance.

  17. Siddle and Porter frustrate bowlerspublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 141-9 (48 overs) v Lancashire

    SiddleImage source, Rex Features

Peter Siddle and Jamie Porter bring up Essex's largest partnership of the innings to date at just 28.

Promising start for Siddle (26 not out) on his Essex debut.

  18. wicket

    WICKET - C Overton (c Cox b Barnard) 0published at 15:04 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 176-7 (48 overs) v Worcestershire

And another. Craig Overton becomes Ed Barnard's fourth victim, edging behind to Ben Cox.

Matt Renshaw may not make it to a first County Championship hundred at this rate. He has 87.

  19. Sussex recover as van Zyl passes 10,000 first-class runspublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Sussex 115-4 (49.2 overs) v Leicestershire

    Adrian Harms
Sports reporter, BBC Sussex at Grace Road

Having been 52-3 at lunch, Sussex have mounted a recovery since the interval led by the experience of Stiaan Van Zyl and Luke Wright who posted a 50 partnership.

Van Zyl passed 10,000 first-class runs and his experience and patience in waiting for the bad ball has been evident throughout his innings.

However Leicestershire continue to bowl well, none more so than Mohammad Abbas whose 15 overs have cost just 16 runs.

And the pressure has just told, with van Zyl dismissed by Callum Parkinson for 44.

WICKET Bresnan (lbw b Fletcher) 10published at 15:01 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Yorkshire 155-7 (48.1 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    Luke Fletcher to Tim Bresnan.

Two of the games great characters and it's Fletch who has the last laugh on this occasion as he traps Bres leg before to keep up Notts' dominance.

And what a way for him to celebrate...
