Summary

  • 127 wickets fall across nine matches in both divisions

  • Champions Essex fight back with ball against Lancashire after making just 150

  • Australia's Matt Renshaw scores 100 on debut for Somerset v Worcestershire

  • South Africa opener Aiden Markram makes a pair on the same day on his Durham debut

  1. wicket

WICKET Mullaney (b Brooks) 0published at 17:13 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Yorkshire 256 v Nottinghamshire 0-1 (0.2 overs)

Great start for Yorkshire with the ball and Jack Brooks.

Steven Mullaney lasts just two balls of the innings for Notts and chops the ball back on to his stumps as he tries to drive off the back foot.

  2. Surrey's remarkable collapsepublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Surrey 211 (73.1 overs) v Hampshire

From 187-4 to 211 all out. That's quite the collapse from Surrey, especially considering there's no spin out there for Liam Dawson, who took 4-30 from his 11.1 overs. Some poor shots and a very long tail combined.

Fidel Edwards (4-38) was the pick of the Hampshire bowlers.

  3. wicket

WICKET Dunn (c Rossouw b Dawson) 0published at 17:10 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Surrey 211 (73.1 overs) v Hampshire

And that's that. Matt Dunn edges Liam Dawson to first slip to give the left-arm spinner his fourth wicket (in the month of April!)

    Surrey's collapse is complete.

  4. wicket

WICKET Dernbach (b Edwards) 0published at 17:07 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Surrey 211-9 (72.5 overs) v Hampshire

Jade Dernbach has been promoted to the dizzy heights of number nine in the Surrey batting order - the same number as his first-class batting average.

The Surrey T20 captain plays a shot befitting his format expertise, backing away to a Fidel Edwards yorker. The outcome is inevitable.

  5. Yorkshire all out for 256published at 17:04 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Yorkshire 256 (74.1 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    Luke FletcherImage source, Getty Images

Luke Fletcher in the wickets once again to wrap up the Yorkshire innings.

Ben Coad the last man to fall for 18 but not before he had helped his side to a second batting bonus point.

Fletcher finishes with figures of 4-47 in that innings.

  6. Kuhn key to Kent progresspublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Durham 91 v Kent 138-5 (44 overs)

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent

Much like Durham's first innings, wickets have fallen at regular intervals throughout this Kent batting display - although less frequently.

The latest man to depart was Darren Stevens, so often a counter-attacking batsman capable of turning innings' around, he was trapped lbw just a few balls after the tea break by James Weighell.

Heino Kuhn did not enjoy his batting as an international, but is having a better time of it with Kent

But South African Heino Kuhn has been determined at the other end, strong in defence but not afraid of throwing his arms hard at a few.

He reached his half century off 120 deliveries, and if Kent are to build a meaningful score here, the kolpak signing is key to their progress.

  7. wicket

WICKET Rhodes (c Byrom b Overton) 1published at 17:02 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 202 v Worcestershire 48-5 (12.1 overs)

Eddie Byrom takes an alert catch at short leg and Craig Overton has a wicket. Worcestershire are in danger of being rolled out here. George Rhodes departs four balls after Tom Fell.

  8. wicket

WICKET Fell (lbw b Davey) 21published at 17:00 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 202 v Worcestershire 47-4 (11.3 overs)

As I was saying, batting is tricky at Taunton. Tom Fell knows. He's lbw to Josh Davey.

  9. wicket

WICKET Clarke (c Wood b Dawson) 5published at 16:59 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Surrey 210-8 (71.2 overs) v Hampshire

Oh dear. Another poor shot from a Surrey batsman. Rikki Clarke saunters down the wicket and hits Liam Dawson straight to Chris Wood on the long-on boundary. Needless.

  10. Yorkshire tail wagspublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Yorkshire 248-9 (73 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Nice bit of resistance for the last wicket this for Yorkshire at Headingley.

Jack Brooks (22 not out) and Ben Coad (18 not out) have added 36 so far to frustrate the Notts bowlers who are looking to complete the job.

  11. Fell and Head weather the stormpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 202 v Worcestershire 45-3 (11 overs)

Tom Fell (19*) and Travis Head (14*) have come through the tough start provided by Lewis Gregory.

Considering only three Somerset players made it to double-figures, it seems a difficult pitch at Taunton.

  12. wicket

WICKET Livingstone (c ten Doeschate b Harmer) 33published at 16:54 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 150 v Lancashire 65-4 (17.5 overs)

    Livingstone outImage source, Rex Features

Simon Harmer was Essex's other big wicket-taker in their march to the title last season.

He comes on to try and dry up the runs for Lancashire, has a big leg before shout turned down, gets slog-swept for four by Liam Livingstone and then next ball gets him caught at short leg by Ryan ten Doeschate.

Livingstone doesn't look too pleased with that but his enterprising knock comes to an end on 33.

  13. Division Two updatepublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

Wickets keep falling up at Chester-le-Street where Kent are now 132-5 in reply to Durham's 91 all out.

Derbyshire have been dismissed for 261 against Middlesex at the County Ground.

Warwickshire's reply to Northants' 147 all out has stabilised a bit at Wantage Road on 50-3 after tea.

Sussex continue to press on in the Grace Road sunshine as they move to 193-4 against Leicestershire.

Finally, Gloucestershire are hunting down a first batting bonus point against Glamorgan at Bristol on 192-7.

  14. wicket

WICKET Foakes (lbw b Dawson) 46published at 16:48 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Surrey 203-7 (69.4 overs) v Hampshire

Another wicket for a spinner - and it's the same one, too. Liam Dawson deceives Ben Foakes, who gets a big stride in, but is hit on the pad.

The umpire's finger goes up and another Surrey batsman fails short of a half-century. Three wickets in the session for Hampshire.

  16. wicket

WICKET Curran (c Wood b Dawson) 5published at 16:40 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Surrey 202-6 (67.3 overs) v Hampshire

Sam Curran tries to hit Liam Dawson over mid-off, but can only pick out Chris Wood. The youngster will regret his shot selection on that one.

A wicket for a spinner in April, now there's a rarity.

  17. Livingstone and Vilas plot recoverypublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 150 v Lancashire 41-3 (14 overs)

Vilas and LivingstoneImage source, Rex Features

Runs starting to come slightly easier for Lancashire at Chelmsford.

Skipper Liam Livingstone and Dane Vilas are trying to get something started for this fourth wicket.

Paul Walter on at first change for the hosts just struggling for a bit of rhythm.

  18. Power hitting from Viljoen boosts Derbyshirepublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Derbyshire 244-8 (64 overs) v Middlesex

    Dave Fletcher
BBC Radio Derby Sport at Derby

A 59-ball half century from Hardus Viljoen - which included three sixes in an over off Ollie Rayner - turned things Derbyshire's way before tea.

The home side were struggling on 167-7 when Viljoen joined Tony Palladino and they added 81 for the eighth wicket.

James Harris picked up three wickets in the session for Middlesex - including Palladino for 25 from the last ball of the session as Derbyshire reached 248 for 8.

  19. No hat-trick for Gregorypublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 202 v Worcestershire 24-3 (6.1 overs)

Travis Head negotiates a back-of-a-length delivery, getting off the mark first ball. No hat-trick at Taunton.

  20. wicket

WICKET Hodd (b Gurney) 62published at 16:32 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Yorkshire 211-9 (66.4 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Wickets tumbling all over Division One all of a sudden.

Andy Hodd's brave resistance for Yorkshire is finally ended on 62 by Harry Gurney, who takes his wicket of the innings for Notts.

Hodd's 116-ball stay guided Yorkshire to what might be a valuable batting bonus point.
