  1. That's lunchpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

So, as mentioned in the fall of that last wicket at Chelmsford, that is lunch.

We'll bring you all the scores from across the country very soon...

  2. wicket

WICKET Bopara (c Livingstone b Clark) 7published at 13:00 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 65-4 (28.2 overs) v Lancashire

Fourth wicket of the morning session at Chelmsford and with that comes the lunch break.

Ravi Bopara prods forward and edges to third slip Liam Livingstone off the bowling of Jordan Clark.

That arguably makes it Lancashire's session in what has been a very accomplished performance with the ball against the defending champions.

Thank the Lord for Championship cricket.

A wonderful first morning in south London in the most perfect conditions.

Fidel Edwards picked up two early wickets in identical fashion. Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick were both trapped in front by quick, swinging deliveries.

Rory Burns and Dean Elgar have played very well against some testing bowling and it is rather lovely to have cricket back.

  4. wicket

WICKET Hildreth (c Clarke b Barnard) 48published at 12:54 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 99-3 (26.3 overs) v Worcestershire

A big wicket for Worcestershire just before lunch. Ed Barnard does for James Hildreth with Joe Clarke snaffling a catch at third slip.

  5. wicket

    Yorkshire 93-5 (23.5 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Notinghamshire have had a great morning with the ball at Headingley.

Luke Wood becomes the fourth visiting seamer to claim a scalp as Harry Brook is bowled all ends up for 22.

And it's another GIF of beauty on Twitter I have to say....

  6. Plenty of nip despite the sunshinepublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 59-3 (25 overs) v Lancashire

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire at Chelmsford

Approaching the end of the opening session and don't be deceived by the blue skies over Chelmsford this has been tough going for the batting side.

Lancashire have bowled well, led by Graham Onions and Tom Bailey but also back up by Joe Mennie.

Couldn't have asked for better conditions, it's hot and the beers are flowing already but for Ravi Bopara and Dan Lawrence its all about surviving until lunch.

Good to see a decent turn-out at the Oval for Surrey v Hampshire. But if you can't get a crowd in glorious weather like this, when can you?

  8. Somerset getting a move onpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Somerset 81-2 (23.3 overs) v Worcestershire

After a very tricky opening spell, Somerset pair James Hildreth (43*) and Matthew Renshaw (30*) are beginning to look more comfortable at Taunton.

They've scored 53 runs in the last 10 overs without losing a wicket.

    Yorkshire 87-4 (21 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire grab another big scalp at Headingley and it's Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth who goes this time.

Trapped leg before after a promising 45.

Harry Gurney has a first wicket of the game and it's a first excuse for those on the Notts social media account to use this nifty little GIF....

  10. 50 runs

50 up for Essexpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Essex 50-3 (22 overs) v Lancashire

Been hard graft for runs across the country this morning, including at Chelmsford.

Champions Essex were inserted as Lancashire opted not to toss the coin and three wickets have fallen.

But, Ravi Bopara and Dan Lawrence edge the hosts to a first landmark as 50 comes up on the board.

  11. Wheal banging it inpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Surrey 62-2 (22 overs) v Hampshire

Brad Wheal has been designated the enforcer for Hampshire. The right-armer is coming around the wicket and aiming half-way down at Dean Elgar and Rory Burns.

So far the two lefties are dealing well with it. Elgar, as always seems the case, has been hit on the hand.

  12. 'Plenty of encouragement for the bowlers'published at 12:30 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Sussex 40-2 v Leicestershire

    Adrian Harms
Sports reporter, BBC Sussex at Grace Road

Having won the toss the Sussex batsman have endured a difficult opening hour aginst excellent Leicestershire bowling.

Pakistan Test bowler Mohammad Abbas has bowled beautifully and might have had more than the wicket of Phil Salt who batted well for his 21.

Credit the groundsman, after all the bad weather this looks a terrific true wicket but with bounce and encouragement for the bowlers

  13. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

As Adam just said, Durham are in dire straights against Kent, with the score on 46-7. Matt Henry has 5-27 from 10 overs.

Northants are 60-3 with Richard Levi and Rob Keogh at the crease against Warwickshire.

Ben Slater and Wayne Madsen are going well for Derbyshire against Middlesex at 71-1.

Gloucestershire are 62-3 against Glamorgan at Bristol.

Meanwhile it's been slow-scoring for Sussex, who are 36-2 against Leicestershire. Stiaan van Zyl and Harry Finch are at the crease.

    Essex 48-3 (19.1 overs) v Lancashire

    Bailey cellyImage source, Rex Features

Essex three down now inside the opening 90 minutes.

Tom Westley the man to fall this time as he edges to Haseeb Hameed at first slip to give Tom Bailey his first scalp of the innings.

Looked like the right-hander was trying to pull his bat away from that one, but it had just enough on it to reach Hameed's fingers.

  15. I'll have what the Kent bowlers are havingpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Durham 46-7 (19 overs) v Kent

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent

Whatever breakfast Matt Henry had, I want some of it.

The Kent bowler has been magnificent, bowling full, accurate deliveries with plenty of pace to cause hell for the Durham top order.

Harry Podmore (pictured) and Matt Henry have been on fire today

Having already waved goodbye to Aiden Markram and Will Smith, he has also seem the back of Gareth Harte, Paul Collingwood and Michael Richardson to give him a five-wicket haul within 10 overs.

Harry Podmore has also chipped in with two wickets, sending Stuart Poynter's off-stump close to the River Wear a few moments ago.

Could they be bowled out in a session?

  16. Carey reaches 50 wicketspublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Gloucestershire 60-3 (18 overs) v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport at Bristol

An hour of mist and murk saw Glamorgan claim three wickets to justify their decision to bowl first, before the sun emerged to make prospects easier for Gloucestershire's batsmen.

Lukas Carey reached 50 first-class wickets in his 15th game as he bowled Chris Dent and had Benny Howell lbw.

Gareth Roderick and James Bracey looked to have survived the early troubles before Roderick on 17 edged Hogan to slip.

  17. wicket

    Essex 38-2 (17 overs) v Lancashire

    Browne outImage source, Rex Features

Second wicket down for Essex and Joe Mennie is the man to make that breakthrough for Lancashire.

Nick Browne has his furniture rearranged by the Aussie seamer and departs for a tricky 23 to one that looked like it kept pretty low.

That brings Essex no.4 Dan Lawrence to the crease.

    WICKET Ballance - (c Patel b Ball) 0published at 12:01 British Summer Time 20 April 2018

    Yorkshire 37-3 (13 overs) v Nottinghamshire

Skipper Gary Ballance was a prolific scorer for Yorkshire last summer, but he won't look back on this brief innings with any pleasure. It lasts only nine balls before he carves a wide one from Jake Ball to Samit Patel at point.

A needless dismissal, and Yorkshire are now in some trouble as England Under-19 batsman Harry Brook comes out to partner Adam Lyth.
