  1. Pak 41-1published at 18 overs

    Sohail 15, Azhar 15

    Shot! Four!

It's a bit full and a bit wide from Ben Stokes, and Azhar Ali gets a thick bottom edge that flies through Jos Buttler's attempted stop at third slip and goes flying down to third man for a welcome boundary.

Jon Dunn: Wood bowling that probing 14th stump line. Batsmen couldn’t hit it if they wanted to.

  3. Pak 37-1published at 17 overs

A back foot punch from Azhar Ali meets a tumbling Stuart Broad at mid-on, before Wood straightens his line and gets the ball to burst through Azhar's defence.

England need a couple of wickets. At the moment Pakistan are outplaying England in every department. It's not the first time the England bowling attack have been accused of bowling too short.

  5. Pak 36-1published at 16 overs

    Sohail 14, Azhar 11

Ben Stokes was bowling off a shortened run in New Zealand, but he's back to his usual length here.

He gets Haris Sohail to have a little poke at a delivery that hugs his off stump, before Haris whacks his bat down to keep a fuller delivery away from his pads.

Stuart Broad's evening work of 7-4-10-1 is done for the time being.

Mark Wood zips through another over, but it's all a little bit too wide, and Azhar Ali can leave well alone.

I think we're in for a change at the other end...

Liam Donoghue: A can of Surströmming. Looks okay from the outside, but then you open the tin...

Lewis in Banstead: A really poorly made club sandwich. Very little filling and way to much bread which leaves you feeling bloated, underwhelmed and still hungry!

Da-vid: An Aero, all sorts of holes in the middle...

  9. Pak 32-1published at 14 overs

Another loose wafty drive, this time from Haris Sohail, has Stuart Broad grimacing and baring his teeth on his way back to his mark.

The next delivery goes a little awry, mind, the ball fizzing down the leg side and away for four byes. Whoopsie.

Pakistan are not really worried about runs, all they want to do is to survive. The idea is to not lose any more wickets.

  11. Pak 26-1published at 13 overs

    Wood 2-1-4-0

Another optimistic appeal from England, as Mark Wood hits Azhar Ali well above the knee roll. Joe Root just turns away as Wood goes to ask him about the review.

A bouncer has Azhar bending his knees and whipping his head out of the way, before Wood responds with an 89mph delivery that Azhar can't help but fend loosely at. Lovely stuff from Wood.

I went downstairs to check on the temperature and it was a bit brisk - I didn't care for it much. I don't know if that will affect the swinging of the ball.

  13. Pak 26-1published at 12 overs

Stuart Broad, face burning bright red, is opting to come around the wicket to Haris Sohail.

He digs the ball in, getting it to rise awkwardly on the batsman, but Haris plonks his bat down to see off a maiden. The coats are being brought out for the umpires.

I don't think Wood is a bowler who will swing the ball but he hits the pitch hard and will look to bowl bouncers. He has two men on the boundary.

  15. Pak 26-1published at 11 overs

Mark Wood's bowling up in the late eighties, but Azhar Ali meets it with the full face of the bat.

He and Haris Sohail milk a few singles here and there to keep things ticking along.

Time for a change. James Anderson's spell of 5-2-11-0 is over, and Mark Wood is coming on for a blast.

    Sohail 8, Azhar 7

Yet another lbw appeal from Stuart Broad. Has that one pitched outside leg? Joe Root's not too keen on that one.

Oh, Haris Sohail has got a nick on it, as well. As you were.

    Eng 184

Anderson strays on to the pads of both Haris Sohail and Azhar Ali - singles apiece - then is a touch too full as Sohail drives past mid-off for three. England striving.
