There was a massive gap between the wicketkeeper and first slip and it split the two right down the middle, no chance at all for Cook to catch that, it went quickly.

Pak 304-5
Edge - and just short of Alastair Cook!
It's Faheem Ashraf who is pushing away from his body. Jonny Bairstow probably should move to his left to take that, but he stays stock still and Cook, at the very last second, has to thrust a hand out. Cook and Bairstow stare at each other as the ball races away for four.
Pak 300-5
A lacksadasical pull from Shadab Khan, and that brings up 300 runs for Pakistan!
They've outplayed England in every department so far.

Maybe it's time for a spinner. There is a left-hander out there, Bess can be handy out there. I'm not sure how his shoulder is because he took a nasty fall earlier.
Pakistan continue on their way, with Faheem Ashraf milking an easy single off James Anderson.
England look... well. They look like they looked when they were getting beaten in Australia. Downcast.

A 150 lead for Pakistan should win the game. These two are playing busily, it is good cricket.
Lead by 114
A half-hearted appeal for a strangle down the leg side, as Shadab Khan chases after a Mark Wood delivery.
Jonny Bairstow likes it. Joe Root comes over for a brief chat but there's nothing doing. It's ball on thigh, not bat. Shadab then miscues a pull for a couple. Ooft, Faheem nails his attempt at a pull, though - four!

Never brings us any food back, mind. Anyway, drinks are done and Mark Wood is going to continue.

You know the match is going badly when a coffee stain is worth posting!

Anderson has not bowled many overs - and he did not take the new ball. Is he carrying an injury?
A nice bit of placement from Shadab Khan, turning Anderson's latest delivery off his toes and through a diving Dom Bess for three.
Time for some drinks.
Here is James Anderson from the Nursery End, which is the end that he struck from earlier.
Lead by 103
A tidy over from Mark Wood, spoiled only by a leading edge that brings Shadab Khan a couple.
There was a moment of brief joy for England earlier, before it was cancelled out by the review system...
I think that very thing is about to happen. Here is Mark Wood, replacing James Anderson.

I would like to see England bring Jimmy Anderson to the Nursery End and Wood to the Pavilion End.
Faheem Ashraf has a big golf swing at a Stuart Broad short ball. He gloves it... and it goes over Jonny Bairstow's head and away fine for four.
England look, dare I say, a little flat at the minute.

Look hard. You'll see a stain on a pristine blue carpet on the stairs inside the Lord's media centre. A reminder of when TMS commentator Charles Dagnall spilled his coffee during the Women's World Cup final last summer.

Faheem whacks a single square of the wicket off James Anderson, before he and Shadab Khan rotate the strike back and forth. There's 22 overs left in the day.

I have to say that throughout this Test match, England have looked like a side that needs oiling. There are so many things that have not looked right. Stoneman had the lid on all winter and has not been there all match. Jimmy Anderson used to field at third slip, Broad had four slips and Anderson wasn't one of them.

Four more to Pakistan!
This time it's Shadab Khan who pierces the field, freeing his arms and driving Stuart Broad through gully with aplomb. Joe Root sticks a fourth slip in place in response.
