A good tumbling stop by Dom Bess stops a full-blooded cut from Babar Azam racing away.

Oh, and then he gets a horrible clatter on the forearm a second later! He ducks very early into a Ben Stokes short ball and the ball just thuds into him. There's no padding there and Babar is down on his haunches. Out comes the physio.

These two are looking pretty good against the new ball, some nice crisp shots and that's the trouble, if you do get a bat on it, it races away. You don't want to be anything more than 120-130 behind because then it starts getting awkward.

  3. Pak 245-5published at 84 overs

Stuart Broad thumps his fist into his hand in frustration as he gets a delivery to wobble just past Babar Azam's attempted prod of a drive.

David in Bury: England will always struggle to win matches when they don't pick the best batters in county cricket. Burns, Foakes, Hildreth and Livingstone deserve a go.

  5. Pak 245-5published at 83 overs

    Lead by 61

Good, this, from Ben Stokes. There's a bit of extra zip about him, and some definite movement on the ball.

That'll be four, however, as Shadab Khan gently pushes the ball through extra cover and it goes racing away to the boundary. Four more! A whirl of the wrists, and Shadab flicks the ball emphatically off his hips.

People say nobody comes and watches Test cricket. Yes, there has been a problem in our part of the world - people in the sub-continent are more used to one-day and T20 - but this is great to see, a packed house.

  7. Pak 237-5published at 82 overs

Babar Azam almost chops a slower Stuart Broad delivery onto his stumps, via the bottom of his bat.

Edge - and just wide of Ben Stokes! A little push of the hands from Babar and Stokes, desperately diving at third slip, just can't get his hand to it. An eventful over...

  8. ouch!

    Pak 233-5published at 81.4 overs

    A run for Shadab Khan!

He drops into the off side and runs, and it's Dom Bess who does the tidying up. Oh, he's done himself a mischief, too. He shies at the stumps and lands awkwardly on his left elbow, leaving him clutching his shoulder. He's signalled for the physio.

  9. Pak 232-5published at 81.2 overs

A play and a miss straight away! Stuart Broad follows up a lovely delivery with some helpful advice for Shadab Khan, who just says "thank you" in response.

And again! A little waftier this time, Broad dropping short and Shadab going after it. It doesn't look pretty.

I know England said it would turn in the final innings, but they have then got to turn to a 20-year-old debutant who has played 16 first-class games to win the match for them. I think there has been some confused thinking.

    Babar 64, Shadab 0

Babar Azam plays at what he has to, and ignores the few tempters that Ben Stokes sends in his direction.

Oh, a leading edge - but it's gone for four! Stokes squares Azam up, feet and body swivelling around, and the ball trickles through the slip cordon.

Here comes the umpire - and yup, England have taken it straight away.

It'll be Ben Stokes who gets the first crack with it. He bowled very well before tea.

Mickey Arthur's face when Sarfraz holed out was magnificently unimpressed. Not a happy bunny.

Dom Bess whirls through the over, with Babar Azam tucking a solitary run off his pads.

The players are making their way out, fresh from their tea-time scones. At least, I assume that's what they eat at tea.

There's just one more over until the new ball is available, and a new man at the crease in the shape of Shadab Khan.

You go to Anderson and Broad after tea - Jimmy from the Nursery End, Broad from the Pavilion End. Broad has bowled very well from both ends and he's been the pick of the four and Anderson has found his rhythm from the Nursery End.
