Paul Roberts: In the not-too-distant future, touring teams will be playing warm-up matches against England for their main series against Ireland.
That was a slightly more profitable session for England, although Pakistan have already moved into the lead with two wickets in hand.
Another little slip in the field won't have cheered them too much, either...
BBC Test Match Special
Do keep an ear on Test Match Special over the tea break - they've been speaking to injured England bowlers Toby Roland-Jones and Jack Leach.
That wicket came two minutes before the schedule interval. When the players appear again for the evening session there will be one over before the new ball is due. To see if England can make further in-roads in around 16 minutes or so, let's join Amy Lofthouse.

Ben Stokes has taken 2-9 in five overs.

That's the only kind of mistake Pakistan have made for five sessions. The captain had a rush of blood, with all that field set for that.
Sarfraz c Wood b Stokes 9 (Pak 227-5)
The old three-card trick and Sarfraz, who is not much above the stumps when he crouches to take guard, takes on the short one, which flies off the top edge and is superbly pouched diving forward by Wood at fine-leg. Coach Mickey Arthur on the balcony looks less than impressed and will not be handing out the Vienesse Whirls. But that will be tea.

I like his action, I like the loop. He's only 20 - he's done well.

The nuggety Sarfraz, a man with three hundreds and 14 Test fifties to his name, makes room but no contact with an attempted cut at Bess, which passes agonisingly over the stumps. The young England debutant will not be bullied, when Sarfraz moves two yards to the leg-side, Bess refuses to bowl to him and makes him behave himself.
Babar 59, Sarfraz 4
A touch too wide from Stokes and Babar steers him away past point for his eighth boundary as wordsmith and cricket fanatic Tim Rice looks on. A Richie Benaud score of 222- and still six wickets for England to take.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
From what I've seen of Bess so far, I like him. He puts energy on the ball, he's got good body language, he's vibrant in the field.

Five dots from Bess, just the one bad ball and it's helped away for two by Babar.
Babar 52, Sarfraz 2
There's a gentleman of a certain age in the crowd with a grey beard...nothing unusual there of course. But he has maroon hair, which is the same colour as the shirt of the MCC member next to him. Stokes continues from the Pavilion End and Sarfraz is content to play out a maiden from the combative all-rounder.

Babar looks a good player to me. He has batted at three before but number five looks like a better position for him.
The Pakistan team are playing with so much control - this is worrying for England.
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
Babar's fifty took 93 balls, contained seven fours and took 115 minutes.
Pak 213-4 (lead by 29)
Continuing the Beach Boys theme, one of our viewers said Babar Azam should be sung to the tune of their classic hit Barbara Ann. Anyway, he's the third Pakistan batsman to make a fifty in this innings, reaching the landmark in style with a boundary.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
The maturity that Pakistan have shown for the best part of two days has been outstanding - in conditions where you would expect England to dominate.

Stokes is looking dangerous, either with that superb inswinger he possesses or with the one that holds its line. Physically, having previously resembled Gary Windass from Coronation Street, he's looking a bit like Mike Love from the Beach Boys, which I realise is not a young person reference.
