You've got to enjoy this as an opener - otherwise there is no point being an opener. Getting stuck in, gnarly, you've got to thrive on them and see them as a challenge.

Imam-ul-Haq is an absolute whizz in the field! He goes leaping to his left to cut off a full blooded thwack from Joe Root.

Faheem Ashraf beats Root with a delivery that nips back in to the batsman. A maiden.

Loser92: England are setting in now. I think we can expect a big second innings total from the three lions. Who knows we may even sneak a win in the first Test.

Hasan Ali's response is a terrific, pitched up delivery that moves past the outside edge of Mark Stoneman's bat.

Too full, though, and Stoneman clonks him through mid-wicket for a couple.

There's a facial recognition tent at Lord's where you can see which England cricketer past or present you most resemble. I am 26% a match with Andrew Strauss and in second place 10% with Derek Underwood.

Oops, doesn't matter if it's hitting or not, it's pitched way outside leg.

That's a terrible review, actually! Mark Stoneman survives.

We're going upstairs - Hasan Ali thinks he's got Mark Stoneman out lbw.

    I think it's going down...

Barry in Newcastle: Keep convincing myself that I can revise with TMS on in the background. Sadly I don't think it's true. However, even watching England's dismal cricket is better than 3rd Year Economics revision, trust me!

  9. Eng 24-1published at 13 overs

Shot! That'll be four for Joe Root as he stands on tiptoes and cuts a wide Faheem Ashraf delivery down to the boundary.

Faheem readjusts, spearing the ball in a touch fuller, and Root is immaculate in defence.

The difference between the England and Pakistan bowlers is that you felt England were always looking for the big swinging or seaming delivery, whereas Pakistan just bowl at the stumps every delivery, testing your technique with every ball.

Full and straight from Hasan Ali, and Joe Root covers up in defence.

It was Hasan who dismissed Root in the first innings, although if Root plays a shot like that again I genuinely fear that people will explode. As it happens, Root works him off his toes for one.

I'd love more than a two Test series against Pakistan. I think they're excellent to watch.

Double change at Lord's - Hasan Ali replaces Mohammad Abbas.

Alice Stainer: I don't understand how England can appear so amateurish. Are they playing on the same pitch as Pakistan? At times they look as though they just don't know how to play.

SDyer: ECB seems to be cramming in limited overs games here, there and everywhere this summer. Am I the only one who wants 4 or 5 Tests against Pakistan instead?

A very tidy maiden for Faheem Ashraf, the only moment of worry coming when Mark Stroneman gets squared up and a leading edge flies on the bounce to gully.

The first change for Pakistan - Faheem Ashraf is replacing Mohammad Amir at the Pavilion End.

  17. Eng 19-1published at 10 overs

A half-yelp from Mohammad Abbas as he strikes Joe Root on the knee, Root's feet getting into a real tangle, but it's sliding down leg.

Root pulls, but there's a man out there and it's only a single, before Stoneman works another one to keep things ticking along.

Pakistan's fielders are so sharp, as the man at gully tumbles, collects the ball and mimes throwing at the stumps in super quick time.

Mohammad Amir goes short, but Joe Root can easily whip himself out of harms way, before taking a speedy single.
