Double JB at the crease - Jos Buttler is on his way to join Jonny Bairstow.

He gets the wrong 'un first up from Shadab Khan, but picks it and keeps it out.

He played so well. England should be very proud of him. Pakistan might have a sniff here now - two new batsmen at the crease and the lead is only 38.

Oh! Dom Bess falls one short of his half-century!

Bess had just thumped a full toss away, but this time Shadab Khan finds a bit of extra bounce. Bess tries to work it away through the off side and ends up guiding the ball into the hands of the waiting slip fielder.

He looks more than a touch crestfallen as he wanders off.

  4. Eng 212-4published at 68.3 overs

Shadab Khan serves up a full toss, and Dom Bess duly thwacks it for four.

It's not gone quite where he meant, the ball rolling down to third man, but it's another boundary and it takes Bess to 49...

Pakistan have got a juggling act now. Amir looks like the only bowler likely to take a wicket, but they'll want him to take the new ball (due in 12 overs' time).

Well. It's pitched some way outside leg. As you were.

Mohammad Amir covers his face and avoids his captain's eye as he takes his jumper from the umpire.

    Eng 207-4

Mohammad Amir has talked Sarfraz into using up a review on Dom Bess.

I think this is going down leg. Sarfraz doesn't look too confident, either.

Shot! I very much like the look of Dom Bess.

This time he frees his arms and drives Mohammad Amir through extra cover for four. Lovely stuff.

Jonny Bairstow likes to announce himself with a big shot or two early in his innings. That comes with a risk and doesn't give you much of an advantage over the bowler other than a couple of boundaries.

  10. Eng 201-4published at 67 overs

Mohammad Amir has been feeling at his shoulder since before tea. He doesn't look too happy about something.

Shadab Khan, meanwhile, whirls his way through a very tidy maiden.

Just watched Root dismissal. Front foot nowhere near the pitching ball. Scoolboy error. Do players review their dismissals and remedy the fault in the nets?

A speculative appeal from Mohammad Amir as he strikes Jonny Bairstow on the pad, but that's sliding down leg.

A superb diving stop at mid-wicket cuts off a Dom Bess drive from the final ball of the over.

Dawid Malan looked a little downcast as he trudged off there, bat tucked under his arm.

Jonny Bairstow is the new man at the crease.

That was a loosener from Mohammad Amir but it bounced a bit and turned into a decent ball.

    Edged - and gone!

Silence around Headingley as Mohammad Amir gets a wicket with his first ball after the break. He's found a bit of extra bounce, which surprises Dawid Malan, and he ends up sending a thick edge from the top of the bat into the waiting hands of Haris Sohail at first slip.

    That was like catching practice.

The pitch is flat now. The nice thing about Headingley is when it's like this, it's a nice pitch to play your shots on. It comes on to the bat nice. England are in a great position to walk the match.

A tickle behind square from Dawid Malan brings England's 200 up.

Dom Bess, looking every inch the proper batsmen, sees out the rest of the over.

Oops. Shadab Khan jogs in, and promptly loses his run up.

He tries again, and this time Dawid Malan defends it back down the pitch to the bowler.
