I'm not sure any other Australian player would have stopped that. Billy Stanlake used all of his seven feet to get down to that!

I'm not sure any other Australian player would have stopped that. Billy Stanlake used all of his seven feet to get down to that!
Target 215
Michael Neser slides one down leg and Joe Root clips it fine but misses out on four as Billy Stanlake shifts quickly to his right and cuts it off.
Good feet for a big man, as the cliche goes.

England have not lost consecutive one-day internationals since they were beaten in Cuttack on the India tour. This is their 29th match since then.
Target 215
Captain Eoin Morgan is in for England, needing to build a partnership with Joe Root to ensure his side don't stuff up this chase.
Kane Richardson drags it down again and Morgan goes for the pull, this time getting it wide of the man and picking up four to get off the mark.

Bairstow hit that so cleanly. He can barely believe it as he trudges off. He smashed it, but it was straight to the fielder.
Bairstow c Head b Richardson 28 (Eng 38-3)
Oh Jonny Bairstow, what have you done?
Kane Richardson bangs it in short and Bairstow swivels a crisp pull shot out towards the fence...
...but there's a man there and Travis Head completes a straightforward catch.
You couldn't even say Australia tried to set the trap for that. A complete gift.
Target 215
That bowling change turns out to be a change of ends for Michael Neser as he switches to the Vauxhall End to replace Billy Stanlake.
Joe Root joins the boundary party, getting on the front foot and clipping it deftly but firmly down the ground for four.

At what point do we start talking about Jonny Bairstow as one of the best ODI players in the world? He can bat, keep wicket and field and is often our best player in a game.
Chris in St Albans
He's currently number 16 in the world,, external Chris...
Yet another gorgeous shot by Jonny Bairstow, standing up and punching it away through the covers for four.
Even if Australia keep taking wickets at the other end, they'll need Bairstow out to stand a chance. He looks fully capable of knocking all these off by himself.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
Welcome to The Oval, Kane! They'll soon start realising they can't give Jonny Bairstow any width outside off stump. It's just great hands and great co-ordination.
Hmm. Michael Neser has bowled two superb overs but is removed from the attack in favour of Kane Richardson.
And his first ball is clattered to the fence by Jonny Bairstow's fierce cut shot.

It may be that beer snakes are an endangered species. I don't remember seeing one during the Test at Headingley, their spiritual home, and plastic beer glasses at The Oval are now dished for a £1 deposit. That would make a snake worth about £500.
Target 215
Jonny Bairstow picks up another single via a thickish inside edge before Joe Root stands resolute in defence to Billy Stanlake, who continues to nag away around off-stump from just back of a length.
Australia have just got their second early wicket and here is their first...Billy Stanlake knocking over Jason Roy's off-stump with a corking delivery...

Australia have bowled a couple of genuine, wicket-taking deliveries.
Target 215
Ooft. Michael Neser welcomes Joe Root to the crease with a wicket delivery that zips down the corridor of uncertainty and just misses the outside edge.
Replays show that ball to dismiss Hales would've hit leg stump flush. Good call by Bairstow to advise his partner against the review.
An excellent wicket maiden for Neser.
Phil Tufnell
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
Hales was trying to play that too square. He turned the bat face, and that's what defeated him. England are in a little bit of trouble here.
Charles Dagnall

It looked a really good shout. I just wonder if it's hit him so close to the stumps that it wouldn't deviate away from striking leg.
Hales lbw Neser 5 (Eng 23-2)
You know how I said England had recovered well?
Michael Neser has his first ODI wicket as he traps Alex Hales lbw.
The ball doesn't nip back much but just enough to get Hales playing around it as it wraps his pads. Big appeal and given.
Hales briefly confers with Jonny Bairstow but opts against the review.

Stanlake bowls at a very decent pace, and a good length. But with that action he's only going to face more injuries.
