Hands shook, Aaron Finch and Travis Head stride out to the middle.

Getting Finch early on this pitch will be key for England. He knows this ground well, having played for Surrey.

Australia's batting line-up lacks depth but they have some explosive players up the order.

A handshake doesn't mean anything - it looks good but it comes down to how you play.

Aussies have plenty of bowling options, whereas England look a bit short with Root as possible 6th?

England didn't deliver their skills against Scotland. England just need to look at it, learn from it and then park it. If they can't be up for it today against Australia, there's something wrong.

Former Australia batter on BBC Test Match Special

I'm expecting some brave players from Australia. There are five massive names out of the team in Smith, Warner, Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood but none of them really performed to the level of expectation in the ODI series over the winter.

Michael Tutton: Some good white ball bowlers in that Australia side. England will have to bat well to reach a par score today.

Anyway, back to the actual cricket.

England impressively beat Australia 4-1 in the ODI series over the winter and subsequently became the world's number one ranked side.

However, they were stunned by Scotland in that spectacular match in Edinburgh on Sunday, much to the enjoyment of the Australian media, which led to responses mentioning the ball-tampering scandal...

Wait, no, back to the actual cricket again. As well as those suspensions for Steve Smith and David Warner, Australia arrive in England weakened by injury, with fast bowling trio Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc all out, while all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is also missing.

Yes, Australia face England in this five-match one-day international series for the first time since the ball-tampering scandal against South Africa in March.

Ex-captain Steve Smith and former vice-captain David Warner are serving year-long bans, with batsman Cameron Bancroft suspended for nine months.

New captain Tim Paine says the tourists "won't be silent" during the series but has implemented a pre-match handshake, while England skipper Eoin Morgan insists his side will not sledge the Aussies about the ball-tampering.

Firm but fair on the field, how about off it? Well, some entrepreneurs have been handing out these boundary signs made out of sandpaper outside The Oval this morning...

    Football is mad, eh?

Thank goodness cricket is entirely sensible. No controversy at all. Oh look, here are Australia.
