Marcus Stoinis was the next Australian man to go, handing Adil Rashid his first wicket...

And that left it to Glenn Maxwell, who was struggling for form going into this match, to try and get Australia towards a competitive total.

It was a fine bowling performance from Moeen, who finished with 3-43 from his ten overs.

He did for Shaun Marsh as Australia struggled. Or, rather, Shaun Marsh did for himself with this shot...

And then captain Tim Paine fell to this ugly dismissal.

Have you managed to listen to last night's Tuffers and Vaughan show yet? If not, it's available to listen here now.

The team previewed the five-match series against Australia, and also looked back on a fine victory for England Women against South Africa.

Travis Head was the first Australian wicket to fall, undone by some swing from David Willey...

And actually, this might be where it all went wrong for Australia. England introduce some spin and Aaron Finch ended up guiding the ball to Mark Wood at short third man.

England will require 215 to win this first ODI.

Keep an ear on Test Match Special over the interval - we'll be going over the highlights of that Australia innings.

We know The Oval is a run-scoring ground and the England top order are in exceptional form so that is well below par from Australia. At least half of the wickets were given to England. The spin in the middle overs was outstanding too.

Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali were excellent for England - and good captaincy from Eoin Moragn, who knew when to exploit Australia's frailities against spin.

Australia... it was just a bit underwhelming, wasn't it? They're missing arguably five key players but this is a good pitch and they never really got going.

It's all over. That's a pretty good performance by England after their caning against Scotland.

    Tye c Buttler b Plunkett 19 (Aus 214)

And that, folks, will be that.

Australia can't see out their 50 overs. Liam Plunkett sends down a slower delivery and Andrew Tye, stepping deep into his crease, gets the slightest of edges through to Jos Buttler.

Well, that's one way to respond!

Andrew Tye launches another Liam Plunkett short ball into the stands. It's a touch fuller from Plunkett, and Tye gets hold of it nicely.

Andrew Tye is pointing to his forearm, which is where the ball seems to have deflected from.

He gets a bit of treatment and a change of helmet, but thankfully, he seems to be OK.

    Ooft, that'll sting!

A rising delivery from Plunkett and the ball deflects off Tye's gloves up into his grille. Tye wiggles his head from side to side to check he's all okay. On comes the physio.

Mark Wood and Joe Root have their own unique wicket celebration - they jump up in the air and bump hips with each other, with equally cheesy grins on both their faces.

Billy Stanlake is the last man at the crease.

He has a best of one not out, made against Pakistan last year.

Richardson hit it pretty cleanly, but straight at Root on the edge of the circle. You can't blame the lower order for trying to have a go here.

    Richardson c Root b Wood 1 (Aus 208-9)

    Catching practice!

It's a firm thwack from Kane Richardson but once again, Joe Root is loitering at mid-off. He takes a slight step back, chucks both hands up, and snaffles up the ball.

    The end is nigh...

    Plunkett 7-0-36-2

Liam Plunkett has been really good today, especially after taking a bit of tap against Scotland.

He concedes just one run from his latest over.
