Australia need five more runs to avoid the heaviest-ever defeat in ODI cricket.

  2. 6 runs

    Aus 186-5published at 25.3 overs

    Well, that's genius.

Glenn Maxwell shifts towards off and scoops a straight ball up over his head and away for six.

The latest addition to a wonderful array of shots today.

The Aussies fielded pretty well. Their heads didn't go down, it was just the ball was travelling over their heads. There wasn't much else they could do.

  5. Aus 178-5published at 25 overs

    Target 482

Yet more fine work from Adil Rashid, giving Glenn Maxwell and new man Tim Paine nothing to go at as Australia can only pick up five runs from the over.

It's a perfect throw by Jonny Bairstow. Why would you take on Bairstow, England's quickest fielder? The throw was on the half-volley, right by the stumps, Buttler didn't have to do much. Stoinis is a cool customer, but he's absolutely fuming.

Stoinis run out (Bairstow) 44 (Aus 173-5)

Replays confirm what we all already knew - Jonny Bairstow has run out Marcus Stoinis by a couple of yards.

That was a poor call and not the fielder you want to be taking on.

Some crisp hitting from Stoinis but that's that. He bellows in frustration as he leaves the field.

    Well then, this looks out.

David Willey makes a fine return to the attack, with Marcus Stoinis resorting to trying to scurry a quick two off the last.

But he's picked out Jonny Bairstow, whose throw is in quickly on the bounce and Jos Buttler whips the bails off.

They're checking but this should be gone.

To be honest, the more we beat Australia by, the better. I don't want exciting cricket, I want England to win, win, win.

England continue to field superbly to back up their extraordinary batting performance as Jason Roy makes a fine diving stop in the covers.

No stopping that though, Marcus Stoinis slightly spoils a fine over for Adil Rashid by clattering the last ball through extra cover to the fence.

So we moan for years about how bad that we are as an ODI team. Now we've got a world-class ODI team (In fact the ODI I'd most like to watch would be England A vs England B) and we still moan. How typically English.

It's frightening to think that England probably should have got 500. Australia clawed it back right at the end.

  14. Aus 164-4published at 22 overs

    Stoinis 38, Maxwell 2

Marcus Stoinis fetches a high bouncer from outside off to over mid-wicket and away for four.

He then launches a straight one down the ground - it flies very high and plugs in the turf but has just enough momentum to dribble the last two inches to hit the rope.

New man Glenn Maxwell taps a single to get off the mark.

Adil Rashid concedes 11 from the over but that dismissal of Finch was well worth it.

Replays show Rashid got more flight and drift on that wicket ball compared to the one that went for six the ball before. Very smart bowling.

    Finch b Rashid 20 (Aus 152-4)

Brilliant from Adil Rashid. Poor from Aaron Finch.

Having just been hit for a big six, the England leg-spinner holds his nerve and gives the next delivery a bit more flight.

Finch thinks it's in the slot again and goes for another huge blow but mistimes his shot and the ball clatters middle and off.

Some impressive strikes from Finch but ultimately just a cameo.
