Well it was a bit of a strange denouement wasn't it? India could have gone to world number one with a 3-0 victory in this series but we're level at 1-1 with the deciding match to come at Headingley with a 12:30 BST start.

The World Cup final takes place exactly a year from now, also at Lord's of course. What will happen in the intervening 12 months and who will we see back at the Home of Cricket on 14 July 2019?

Kohli is generally so strong in run chases. His dismissal probably did dent India's confidence but players like Dhoni, Pandya, Raina to come - there's still quality batmen to get India somewhere near. They just never got out of second gear. It was really odd to watch.

England skipper Eoin Morgan looks ahead to a captivating deciding match at Headingley on Tuesday: "I hope it is, it's a ground we enjoy playing at. We get some fantastic support and hopefully it's a great game of cricket."

England's Joe Root: "I've felt pretty good in practice throughout this summer. It was about trusting that as much as possible and not over complicating things. The way we've been playing this summer has been excellent. It's now nice to be able to contribute to that.

"It's great to get back into this series. We set up the game pretty well as a batting unit but the way we went about things with the ball, I thought we were excellent."

More from India captain Virat Kohli, speaking at the presentation: "We started off pretty well with the bat, it was a really good wicket to play on.

"It got slower in the later half but I think when we lost three wickets was something that really hurt us. You need wickets in hand. That's where we fell behind the eight ball and we could never really recover. The wicket got slower but credit to the bowlers."

India captain Virat Kohli: "Today was a day where we couldn't get going. Those three wickets early on did play a massive role.

"Moeen and Rashid are quality bowlers. Both sensed that we can't really take risks at the particular stage. They did not try anything fancy, they just kept it tight. When you're chasing a big score you need that partnership going."

On MS Dhoni's performance: "This thing comes up again and again when he's not able to play the way he does. Unfortunately people jump to conclusions quickly.

"When things do not go well people pounce on him. We all have bad days and today was a bad day for everyone, not for him alone. The idea was to take the innings deep. He has the experience but sometimes it doesn't pay off."

"I thought we bounced back really well," England skipper Eoin Morgan says. "Joe's play against spin really does set up our innings."

The big moment came at the end of the 27th over with the wicket of captain Kohli for 45, which left them at 140-4

England claimed an important early wicket when Trent Bridge centurion Rohit Sharma was bowled by Mark Wood for 15 in the ninth over.

Root completed his 12th ODI century, compiling 93 with Willey as England finished with 322-7.

Wickets fell around him though and England were 239-6 when Willey came to the crease in the 42nd over. The left-hander quickly injected some extra impetus.

Test captain Joe Root was left out of the deciding T20 and made only three in the opening ODI at Trent Bridge, but class is permanent and he soon regained his touch.

For the second match in succession, India's spin sensation Kuldeep was brought on for the 11th over and also for the second match in succession he struck with his second ball, though Jonny will quite possibly never get out like this again.

Well let's go through it then and once again it was a fine start from England, 69 for no loss in the 10 powerplay overs, with more sparkling shots from openers Bairstow and Roy.
