It's been inevitable for a while. Curious tactics from India today in the latter part of their innings. They did not really try to win the game, certainly for the last 15 overs.

  3. ENGLAND WIN BY 86 RUNSpublished at 50 overs

    Ind 236 all out

The end of a very unusual contest, the final ball is hit to long on and Stokes takes a comfortable catch. It leaves the series level at 1-1 and hopefully we will see an enthralling decider at Headingley on Tuesday.

Liam Plunkett has taken 114 wickets in 72 ODIs - he's now seventh on England's all-time list, overtaking Paul Collingwood.

  5. Ind 227-9published at 49 overs

    Target 323

Beautiful unbroken sunshine for the final throes. Joe Root is whirling his arm mischievously as if he wants the final over. Plunkett sends down the first maiden of the match and finishes with 4-46 from his 10.

Once Kohli was out, that felt like the big moment for England.

  7. Ind 227-9published at 48 overs

    96 needed from 12 balls

Last man Chahal drives Willey stylishly down the ground for four and raises his bat to the dressing room. It's got the feeling of a beer match at the moment. I'm not sure if the supporters that have paid around £100 to watch are quite so jubilant though.

    Target 323

The incongruities continue as four leg byes are given as five wides by umpire Oxenford. Well it has been a struggle for all of us in this last hour or so.

Mercifully, there is only one wicket left.

Stuart Mitchell‏: India need to put MS Dhoni out to dry. This is painful to watch - his batting is looking laboured. A once great - and I mean great - player looking old and tired.

Dave Wood‏: Ridiculous (lack of) tactics from India here. Turning this into a glorified net.

It is. Hitting seventh eighths of the way up middle stump. A very peculiar atmosphere around the ground now.

  13. Umpire reviewpublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

Should be the ninth wicket but it's a token India review. It's been given out so surely it's a formality?

The most frustrating thing is you know Dhoni has the ability to play those breathtaking shots.

  15. Postpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

There is something of a stunned silence after that innings of 37 from 59 balls from Dhoni. It's very unfortunate on the day he recorded his 10,000th ODI run. The partnership with young Kuldeep was 23 from 40 balls.

Dhoni is renowned for being so good in chases and difficult situations. I just feel like he's got today horribly wrong.

The biggest cheer of the day as Dhoni is caught on the boundary. I think even the Indians were cheering.

This is execrable cricket. Horrendous. A year today is a World Cup final - would India play like this in a World Cup final? There's been no attempt for the last hour to even get close.

Boos from the crowd now, it's inexplicable stuff really, very surreal, no-one can quite believe the non-event that is playing out before them.At least the crowd have sunshine.
