Ed James: Could it be that Dhoni is such a good finisher he's setting up the last over finish for the series in the next game?

  2. Ind 213-7published at 45 overs

    Target 323

Dhoni takes a single from the final ball of the over so 110 from the final 30 balls. What's going to happen next MS?

    BBC Test Match Special statistician

MS Dhoni is the 12th player to score 10,000 runs and the fourth Indian. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 18,426 runs. Dhoni is the only one of those to average over 45.

  4. Ind 212-7published at 44.5 overs

Definite strains of the slow hand clap for Dhoni now, not a sound he would be familiar with, and ironic cheers for a single. His 35 have taken 52 balls and half of those deliveries have been dots.

I feel for the crowd. They want some sort of entertainment.

  6. Ind 210-7published at 44 overs

    Target 323

Only two balls for Dhoni to face at the end of the Willey over from the Nursery End and he scrambles a single from the final one. He's certainly leaving the big push late.

The rate has been rising and rising and rising. MS Dhoni looks unflustered as usual but they do need to get a wriggle on.

  8. Ind 208-7published at 43 overs

    Dhoni 33, Kuldeep 4

The left-handed Kuldeep looks as bemused by the pace of Plunkett as the England batsmen frequently do against his mercurial wrist spinners. There is a slip in place but the southpaw collects a single, which will keep him on strike, not exactly what Dhoni might have wanted. There have been 120 dot balls in this innings to date, 14 fours and no sixes, very un-India.

  9. 10,000 ODI runs for Dhonipublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

In his 320th ODI, Dhoni completes his 10,000th run, averaging in excess of 50.

Here's a nice little stat courtesy of Cricviz. They say that Mark Wood's delivery to dismiss Rohit Sharma - the first of the innings - was 13kmph slower than the previous delivery.

It also seamed twice as much off the pitch, further confounding the Indian opener.

  11. Ind 202-7published at 42 overs

    Dhoni 28, Kuldeep 3

Dhoni scythes one down the ground towards the long-on fence but Ben Stokes slides into the padded boundary boards and, after several replays, the umpires are happy that will only be two runs. The India supporters of a more pragmatic nature realise the requirement is looking a little difficult for their team now and Rashid finishes with 2-38 from his 10.

Maybe MS Dhoni is playing a tribute innings to Sunil Gavaskar's 36 not out from 174 balls?

  14. Ind 197-7published at 41 overs

    Target 323

India's new spin sensation Kuldeep is the new man, he has a best of 19 so the batting is not quite at the level of his bowling, which has yielded nine wickets in the first two matches. The India supporters are still chanting away in the evening sunshine but just a handful of singles emerge from the Plunkett over.

After a total walloping at Trent Bridge, England have come back really well.

  16. Ind 194-7published at 40 overs

    Target 323

England were 228-5 at this stage and soon after that we had that superb half-century from David Willey, so the hosts very much in the box seat. The end of Rashid's penultimate over and India need 129 from the final 60 balls.

That is a hapless swipe from Umesh Yadav. I'm not sure what Dhoni thought about that.

Yadav st Buttler b Rashid 0 (Ind 192-7)

He has. A full blooded swing, reminiscent of a golfer from the rough at Royal Lytham, but sadly for the batsman no contact is made and he is out by a few inches.

  19. Umpire reviewpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

Yadav might not be here long, looks as though he has been stumped.

  20. Ind 192-6published at 39.2 overs

Umesh Yadav is the new man, top knot safely protected by a dark blue India helmet. He has a best of 18 not out so that will not cause England too much alarm. Unless Dhoni can do it on his own of course, but Rashid restricts him to a single.
