  1. Eng 17-1published at 7 overs

Keaton Jennings drives square and wisely opts against a second - you don't want to be the second man to run out your captain in one Test.

Mohammed Shami comes round the wicket and Jennings unwisely plays at one that's miles outside off. Wisdom returns as he leaves the next one.

England bowler James Anderson on TMS, asked if he had been part of any better passages of play than the one to Virat Kohli after lunch on day two: "Not many I can think of. It was great to be part of.

"You could feel the tension in the ground and it felt like a big passage of play with such a high quality player.

"On another day I could have got the better of him but unfortunately it didn't happen that way and he showed his class at the end of his innings.

"After the first innings if you said we would have a lead we'd have taken that. The momentum is in India's favour but it is our job to wrestle that back."

Keaton Jennings brings out the paddle sweep as Ravichandran Ashwin continues - it's effective and allows the England opener to rotate the strike.

Stuart Broad had flu yesterday and sounded a little croaky this morning. That explains why he didn't bowl very much.

  6. Eng 14-1published at 5 overs

Mohammed Shami will open up proceedings from t'other end.

Joe Root plays a nice flick through mid-wicket for three before Keaton Jennings sees an inside edge deflect safely away to pick up a single.

Before the start of play, Virat Kohli had an "informal chat" with match referee Jeff Crowe, who reminded the India captain of his responsibilities.

I wonder what that could possibly relate to?

India will be looking to bowl England out for 180. If England can push it over 200 then they will be favourites.

  9. Eng 10-1published at 4 overs

    Jennings 5, Root 1

Ravichandran Ashwin will finish off the last two balls from his over last night.

Joe Root defends the first and the second turns sharply, but it's short so the England captain can easily flick it round the corner to get off the mark with a single.

England bowler James Anderson, speaking on Sky Sports: "The dropped catch of Virat Kohli was frustrating, but I beat the bat a few times, felt in good rhythm and close to getting him out.

"We bowled pretty well all day yesterday. Sam Curran did fantastically well to get those three quick wickets and get us back in the game.

"That afternoon session was brilliant to be part of. The way Ben Stokes bowled reminded me of an Andrew Flintoff spell - it was tremendous theatre.

"I'd bowl the same two balls to Kohli and he would leave one and play at another that so I just kept putting it out there and hoped he would nick one

"For me it doesn't change a huge amount if he's batting out of crease, I might drag my length back a bit but I'm still aiming at just outside off stump."

England captain Joe Root will arrive at the crease this morning with his side leading by 22 runs with nine wickets in hand.

India counterpart Virat Kohli's masterful 149 saw his side recover from 100-5 to post 274, a deficit of just 13, on a thrilling day two - including an afternoon session up there with the best I've ever seen in Test cricket.

Alastair Cook then departed to leave England 9-1 overnight - bowled by an absolute peach by Ravichandran Ashwin, who will be looking to do serious damage today.

India will have to bat last on a pitch that has offered plenty for the seamers and spinners though - can England set a target even Kohli and co can't reach?
