    Bairstow c Pant b Ishant 0 (Eng 134-4)

And now Jonny Bairstow goes for a duck!

That's a lovely bit of work from Ishant Sharma, drawing Bairstow forward with an angled delivery that holds its line. Bairstow has a flash, hard hands once again, and the outside edge flies through to the wicketkeeper. That's three wickets in nine balls.

Joe Root has been lbw four times this summer; three times in this series.

Root appears to have been out lbw a lot this summer. He tries to get across and whip that kind of delivery into the leg side but if you miss it - as can happen when you are beginning your innings - you are in trouble.

  4. Eng 133-3published at 64 overs

    Well then.

Jonny Bairstow sees out the final ball of the over, and that's a double wicket-maiden for Jasprit Bumrah.

It wasn't breaking middle in half but it just looked out.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 63.5 overs

    Root lbw b Bumrah 0 (Eng 133-3)

Out! A three-ball duck for Joe Root!

To be honest, that looked out. Root lost his balance, falling over as Jasprit Bumrah got the ball to move back into his pads. It's a big inswinger, actually, hitting Root below the knee, and the technology shows it's whacking into leg stump. Off he goes.

It looks out, I have to say.

Root reckons this is going down leg.

He's not hit it, that's for sure...

  9. England reviewpublished at 63.4 overs

    Hello, is this another one?

Joe Root sees off his first two deliveries, then he's struck on the pad. There's a long, long delay... and the umpire gives it out!

Root's not having it, and he reviews.

That's the mark of the man - he just sloped off. He didn't milk it. It was just a wave of the bat and off up the stairs he went.

A rueful look on Alastair Cook's face as he made his way up the dressing room stairs for what might be the last time in an England shirt.

It's been a fabulous effort from Cook - it's not easy playing your last Test match and it's a decent score. They're cheering him off for what could be the last time. Or he might get another go, we just don't know!

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 63.2 overs

    Cook b Bumrah 71 (Eng 133-2)

Gone! Alastair Cook has dragged on!

That came out of nowhere. Cook was looking so settled but he got the slightest of inside edges to a delivery that came back in. Bam. Middle stump out of the ground. Jasprit Bumrah barely celebrates as The Oval drops quiet, before Cook trudges off to a standing ovation.

The key at The Oval is and always has been to bat first and bat long. Score 500 plus, then get the spinners on when the pitch breaks up.

  15. Eng 133-1published at 63 overs

Alastair Cook, for what must be the millionth time in his Test career, shovels to leg for a single.

I have to say, I can't remember the last time England were into triple figures and had only lost one wicket. I'm so used to them being 25-3 or something similar. This is much more preferable.

  17. Eng 132-1published at 62 overs

    Moeen 28, Cook 70

Into Alastair Cook's pads goes Jasprit Bumrah, and he's promptly tickled away for a single. There's bounce, though, for the pace bowler, as Moeen tries to defend, and a thick edge sends the ball onto Moeen's foot.

He ends the over with a play and a miss. Bumrah looks more than a touch frustrated.

  18. Eng 130-1published at 61 overs

Ishant angles a delivery in to Cook, who plonks it towards mid-wicket for one, before he and Moeen exchange a couple of singles.

    And it is.

What a terrible review. Cook was jumping in the air and he was struck above the knee. Not out - and India have burned their last review.
