Well, why not? Ben Stokes leans back and cracks a short ball over the slips off a thick outside edge for four.

Again Mohammed Shami goes short and Stokes aims a tennis forehand at it but finds the fielder and only gets one.

Shot! A fraction short from Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran marmalises it through the covers for four.

England must be especially impressed with how the young all-rounder has played spin this summer, with winter tours to Sri Lanka and West Indies coming up.

The India physio is out and checking over Hanuma Vihari.

He looks OK to continue though.

And sure enough gets the helmet back on and is back to his position close in.

That's why I'm glad we have helmets. I played in an era with no helmets and you saw people badly injured.

That was hit very, very hard, straight into his helmet.

Yikes. Ben Stokes bends down to try and whack a Ravindra Jadeja delivery round to square leg but the ball flies straight into Hanuma Vihari at short leg.

It's struck the debutant in the helmet and he stays down for a while.

You get the impression England are going to go for a lead of 450. It's got a roundness to it. I think 420 is enough - that's 3.5 an over. It's so rarely done, you have to fancy your chances of winning from there.

Dan Simmonds: Alright. Let's declare now. We're 400 in front. Cookie is going to get a five-fer and somehow improve his incredible Test average of 7. That would be the cherry on top of the icing on top of the rather delicious fairytale that is Cookie's last Test.

Ben Stokes skips down the pitch at Mohammed Shami and the ball beats the bat. He stays back next up and clatters a wide ball out to deep point for one.

Sam Curran slices backward of point for one more.

Shot! Oh that's delicious, Stokes punches on the up down the ground for four.

He angles the next to third man for one. Seven off the over for England.

Alastair has had an excellent career - you can't argue with runs. He's made bucketloads of them. When the bowlers are racing in with a new ball, you need a strong heart and mind. You're not creaming it about the park with an old ball. He's faced up to the best when they are at their freshest and when he is at his most vulnerable.
