I must say I find it so frustrating people keep trying to compare Buttler and Bairstow. Both are fantastic players and either one is capable of playing as just a batsman.

Too short, too wide to begin with from Adil, who favours bowling in his sleeveless sweater. Which other spots are played in tank tops? Awful delivery to end with. Cut for four by Rishabh Pant.

We've got to get batsmen out of the mindset that they can just 'play their way' like how the bat in T20.
Take Jos Butter - you can say to them that they're a fine batsmen whatever the format and get them to adapt. India might be able to do that with Rishabh Pant.
Number 74 coming up. It's as if Joe Root has remembered that Rashid is playing.

BBC Test Match Special statistician
Adil Rashid has bowled 73 overs in the series.
Target 464
Moeen Ali with the ball, bowling his offies on a dusty one. Alastair Cook is wearing a big grin, the smile of a man who is having seven months off work. Quiet stadium, half-full. Moeen and his magnificent beard. Three singles to India.
Players are back out on to a slightly overcast Oval. England need five wickets to win this match. KL Rahul to shift...

Before lunch, I took a stroll around the ground with Daniel Norcross. The trick with keeping up to date with what’s happening on the field is to decode the cheers. A six can sound worryingly like a wicket; polite, lengthy applause means a batting milestone has been reached.
The Mirror's Dean Wilson: "I think Bairstow is still marginally the better Test batsman, but Jos has shown that he can get hundreds."
John Etheridge of the Sun: "Buttler isn't fussed about keeping, but Bairstow absolutely is fussed. It makes sense to let Jonny have the gloves."

The curious thing is that the only person who seems inked in for the top three is Rory Burns and he hasn't played a Test yet.
Dean Wilson of the Mirror: "The thing with all the all-rounders is that they are the best players and mostly have the experience. What we have seen from this series is that it doesn't matter how you get over the line, as long as you find a way. This England side seems to be a total greater than the sum of its parts."
The Sun's John Etheridge's: "One of the keys to the party is Ben Foakes. You might think England have enough keepers, but he's seen as the best keeper in the country and there will be a lot of standing up to the stumps to be done."
The Mirror's Dean Wilson: "Ed Smith doesn't like the phrase 'horse for course', but he is happy to be skill-specific. They will be thinking carefully about the ability to play spin."

It sounds like they will pick Keaton Jennings, but I wouldn't.

Who will open in Galle? Will I get my way and get Chris Woakes?
The Sun's John Etheridge: "If he had made these runs two Tests ago, he wouldn't have retired, but he made them because he is retiring."

A few people have had these glorious farewells, but with Cook it almost felt accidental. He didn't want all the hullabaloo, but he probably enjoyed it.
Dean Wilson of the Mirror: We can look back on those 12 years and say it has been good, and bad. I get on well with Alastair, but there have been times when he has flown off the handle with me, maybe rightly so.
The Sun's John Etheridge: I think we should be neutral observers and clapping in news conferences is a no-no. But, for Cook, it was great. He's been thoroughly decent.
