Not to take away from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant's exploits in taking this game deep into day five of course.

Rahul just steadily accumulated through that session but Pant smacked it to all parts in thrilling fashion.

    Cheers Steph.

My girlfriend occasionally dips into these live texts, not just to read my writing, but mainly to check on the progress of the game and see whether I might get out early, be home in time for dinner etc.

Alice, if you're reading, I'm sorry, this one is going late as it stands. Please blame Joe Root.

It's a long, long way off yet, but a few people have started talking about that County Championship match against Middlesex and Yorkshire a few years ago. Back in 2014 Yorkshire, led by Root, set Middlesex 472 to win their Division One match. Middlesex promptly chased it down to win by seven wickets, and Root had the nickname 'craptain' bestowed on him by the dressing room. I still think England will win, but it's been a very strange tactical display since lunch.

    Game in the balance.

This is probably the last over before tea. James Anderson is bowling with Bairstow up to the stumps. England will be loving the opportunity to take a break.

He's done it with a six!

A maiden Test match hundred for Rishabh Pant. He whacks Adil Rashid over deep midwicket and celebrate reaching three figures in his third Test. Remember, his first runs in Test cricket were a maximum. He had only 12 runs at lunch, now he has a ton before tea.

Remember the name. Rishabh Pant is a star.

It wasn't. A Pant single takes him to 95.

Rashid's first ball here has to be a googly.

    Target 464

By the way, no India wicketkeeper has ever made a Test century in England. The fly in India's runchase ointment is that you ca't see many runs coming from the bowling of James Anderson. That's his second successive maiden. Adil Rashid is getting a pep talk from Ben Stokes.

It's awful to see the first ball of a spell go for six.

    Rahul 141, Pant 94

Rashid is bowling round the wicket to the right-handed Rahul, which doesn't scream of attacking intent. He's also lucky not to see a long hop hit to the fence by Pant, stopped by a dive at cover. England praying for the second new ball here.

I'm not sure Rishabh Pant rates Adil Rashid. Rashid back, Pant whallops his first ball for six. He's into the 90s.
