  1. SA 30-0published at 9 overs

    Target 332

Wolvaardt doubles her score, almost effortlessly lifting Shrubsole off a good length and through mid-wicket for four. South Africa are starting to break the shackles a little, both openers are into double figures now.

Could England have got to 340-350? Possibly. But they'd have taken 331 beforehand, I think it's slightly above par.

  3. SA 23-0published at 8 overs

    Lee 13, Wolvaardt 4

Brunt strays a little with her length and is punished by two fours in the space of three deliveries by Lee, who lofts the ball through square leg and doesn't seem to be showing any ill-effects of that painful blow a couple of overs ago.

Wolvaardt has only had one scoring stroke from her first 23 deliveries.

  5. SA 15-0published at 7 overs

    Target 332

The next poser for England will be how long they keep going with Shrubsole and Brunt - as I'd guess South Africa will target whichever third seamer (Natalie Sciver?) is brought on. Just a Lee single from the over, Shrubsole's fourth.

I used to like chasing down targets - I used to divide them into blocks of two, so if the run rate was seven, i'd say to myself that we needed 14 off every two overs.

  7. ouch!

    SA 14-0published at 6 overs

    Lee 4, Wolvaardt 4

"Lizelle Lee's been in the wars a bit today," Lydia Greenway notes on TMS as the Proteas number one mistimes a Brunt delivery which whacks her in the lower stomach and fells her to the ground. Lee grimaces and rises to her feet.

But England are bowling very well here, not giving the tourists anything to hit and really putting the squeeze on.

Amy Jones rather dived over that one. This is the sort of ground where if the ball gets through the inner ring, it's usually a boundary. Ir's important to dive on the ball quickly.

  9. SA 12-0published at 5 overs

    Target 332

South Africa have their first boundary off the bat as Wolvaardt carefully threads a four through the covers, just out of reach - or underneath - the diving Amy Jones. (We can forgive her that, given that she's usually a wicketkeeper).

For comparison, England were 33-0 at this stage. But there's a long, long way to go...

  10. SA 8-0published at 4 overs

The miserly Brunt manages another five dot balls, but is denied a maiden over when Lee helps herself to a two.

Laura Wolvaardt has been accepted into medical school, and she's taking a gap year, of sorts, to play cricket. She's got some decisions to make about her future career.

  12. SA 6-0published at 3 overs

    Target 332

South Africa's first run off the bat goes to Lee with a nudge to square leg. Good line and length from Shrubsole.

England really pushed and hustled for the twos, and that's something South Africa are going to have to start doing if they're to get going. Brunt and Shrubsole won't bowl them too many bad balls.

  14. SA 5-0published at 2 overs

    Lee 0, Wolvaardt 0, Extras 5

Katherine Brunt - unsurprisingly, as the senior bowler - is bowling down the hill from the Cromwell Road End. She's bowling to Laura Wolvaardt, who's stretching and jumping up and down on the spot between deliveries like a frustrated gymnast.

A legside wide is the only blemish on Brunt's over.

  15. SA 4-0published at 1 over

    Target 332

Shrubsole, running in up the hill from the Sea End, has Sarah Taylor standing up to the stumps and a slip in place. The right-arm seamer keeps it tight - then the last ball flies between Lizelle Lee's bat and pad, just misses the stumps and away for four.

As it didn't touch anything on the way through, it's signalled as byes - though that's harsh on Taylor as standing up, not even superhuman reflexes would have allowed her to grab that one.

Interesting - Anya Shrubsole, not Katherine Brunt, is taking the first over. Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt opening up for the Proteas.
