Beaumont soon brought up her century, but perished soon afterwards - while her replacement Natalie Sciver didn't last long.
Opener Tammy Beaumont looked in great touch, reverse-sweeping and slog-sweeping with aplomb:
Amy Jones dented South Africa's pace attack with some early boundaries, before perishing for 29:
And if you're just joining us, or just getting on a train home, here's a run-down on how the day went...
Here's the last couple of wickets to fall in that innings - Sarah Taylor for 118, and Danielle Wyatt to the last ball of the innings.
BBC Test Match Special
While we get our breath back after that innings, and the Hove crowd no doubt make a mad dash for fish and chips, keep your ear on TMS where after the county scores from Kevin Howells, they'll be hearing from captains Eoin Morgan and Tim Paine ahead of the England-Australia men's ODI series which begins at The Oval tomorrow.
The TMS team will then be discussing the future of the women's Super League in the light of the ECB's new competition.

It's England's sixth highest ODI total - five of those six have been made under Mark Robinson's tenure.

South Africa's main asset is their three seam bowlers - while they each took two wickets, if you look at the economy rates... Jones managed to blunt the spearhead of that attack and laid the platform for Tammy Beaumont and then Sarah Taylor.
Wyatt c Du Preez b Kapp 20 (Eng 331-6)
Wyatt goes for glory - and is brilliantly pouched by Mignon du Preez running round the mid-wicket boundary! A great diving catch.
Brunt will finish on 12 after a single off the penultimate ball.
Brunt drives to long-on, Wyatt comes back for the second, and though Kapp gathers the ball, she holds onto the ball and doesn't attempt a run-out. Maybe she didn't realise Wyatt was further back than she expected? Very odd.
Wyatt back on strike, another slower ball is cut straight to point where Stacy Lackay can only allow a single.
Here's how it ended for the skipper...
Kapp brings up third man and fine leg - a good slower ball means Brunt can only force a single.
Kapp to bowl, Brunt bludgeons it just wide of mid-off who gets a hand to it but can't stop it. Four!
Wyatt 19, Brunt 4
Brunt knocks a single to long-on, and Wyatt does well to force the last ball for two to long-on. Brunt turned quickly and was always going to attempt a second.
Stand by for the last over!
Khaka returns, Wyatt nurdles a single to bring Brunt on strike for the first time - she punches a two to deep mid-wicket. An exchange of singles means there are eight balls left in the innings. My 330 target is well within range.

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special
When the outfield's quick and the boundaries are short, it's difficult to know what a par score is. South Africa should take heart - this total might only be about par, or just ahead of it.
Wyatt 15, Brunt 0
Katherine Brunt joins Danni Wyatt for the final 15 balls of the innings - and just as she'd done at the start of the over before Taylor fell, Wyatt uses Ismail's pace to nudge the ball for four through third man, before launching a four up the hill and over mid-on for four - and then nicking the strike with a single.
Two overs left.
Taylor c Lackay b Ismail 118 (Eng 305-5)
Sadly for England, she can't make it to the end of the innings - Taylor skies Ismail over backward point and the catch is taken. Once more, Dane van Niekerk goes to shake the hand of an England centurion before they leave the field.
