Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

Beaumont and Jones are taking good options, playing good cricket shots and they don't have to take too many risks.

  2. Eng 71-0published at 14 overs

Leg-spinner Amelia Kerr comes into the attack having taken wickets in each of her last four meetings with England after going without in her opening game against Heather Knight's team earlier in the summer. Plenty of flight, a hint of turn, but England move on at their steady, if unspectacular, pace.

The Leicester outfield is parched from the recent heatwave. That means many of the fielders are wearing long sleeves today. Good call - grass burns are never good. Jensen goes through another over conceding just one run. She has figures of 5-0-8-0 now. England need to come up with a plan for her.

  5. Eng 66-0published at 12 overs

Tammy Beaumont picks up four with a reverse sweep which has Charlotte Edwards purring in the commentary box. Amy Jones also finds the boundary by stepping back in her crease and carving Watkin through point. You sense only a mistake will bring a wicket here. New Zealand just don't have any edge to their bowling.

Jenson has bowled beautifully from that end, and that kind of pace on this type of wicket is difficult to face.

Hayley Jensen gets one to nip off the seam and cramp Tammy Beaumont for room. Nothing doing though. Another tidy over.

Not a problem, Amber. Good luck in Worcester. Sounds like you've had a good summer.

England are on the charge too - Amy Jones greeting off-spinner Jess Watkin's introduction to the attack with a couple of boundaries.

The second one is particularly dismissive as she carves the 20-year-old over extra cover for a one-bounce four.

Amber Cummins: Can I ask for a shout-out for my team (Cornwall Women's Cricket) who have reached the play-off stage (taking place at Worcester on 27 August) to be promoted to Division Two of the Women's County Championship?

  11. Eng 40-0published at 9 overs

Tammy Beaumont is being kept in check for now, but she looks busy at the crease - bat perpendicular when the ball is delivered and feet which look ready to dance at any given moment. Two from the over.

  12. 'Beaumont in good touch'published at 14:31 British Summer Time 13 July 2018

    Charlotte Edwards

Brilliant start for England. Beaumont looks in such good touch, and England will be looking to post a very, very big score.

  13. Eng 38-0published at 8 overs

This was Tammy Beaumont's first boundary of the afternoon. Elegant.

New Zealand have done well to rein England in - Devine taking Jensen's lead and taking some pace off the ball and bowling wicket to wicket.

Just a wide for England from that set of six (or seven!).

How about we use the power of social media to request a tune? I'll get Stephan to put it to the DJ if you can come up with something good (and something which wouldn't already be on the DJ's setlist!).

Another tidy over from Jensen. One from it.

It's early in the day, but the Grace Road DJ is already going rogue. Dance music is one of my many blindspots and the tunes here sound like we are being warmed up for a Friday night on the town. Pete Tong's Club Classics. At the moment, the crowd aren't in danger of hearing a song they know.

The television cameras pick out a young child being spoon-fed his lunch. He looks like he's just started weaning and, judging by the lack of food down his front, he's just begun ticking into his meal. A big clean-up job will be need in half an hour.

England are barely being troubled here. Sophie Devine just can't get the new ball to move off the straight - the breeze which is whipping through from left to right not helping the inswing.

Hayley Jensen - with an action more Mark Ealham than Brett Lee - is brought on to deliver line and length. With a packed off side field, there's no margin for error. Amy Jones, after batting back three dots, uses her feet to guide a single down to third man. Just two from the over.

This is looking like it will be a big total. If you get two batters set, this ground is very hard to defend on with such a fast outfield. And the batters are being aided by the width Devine and Huddlestone are giving them.

  20. Eng 28-0published at 4 overs

    England won toss

Sophie Devine is bowling half-volleys here - a wide one being steered through the off side by Tammy Beaumont for another four. After five successive victories over New Zealand, you suspect England will make hay on this big ground today.
