  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Bailey b Leach 13 (Somerset v Lancs 99)

This. Has been. A. Um. Quick capitulation.

Genuinely lost for words at how quickly this second session has unravelled for Lancashire.

I'm not sure any of us thought it could get this much worse, this quickly for Lancashire, who resumed after lunch on 72-5.

But Jack Leach takes his fifth wicket of the day, as Tom Bailey swipes awkwardly at Leach's delivery and is bowled cleanly out.

    I mean, seriously?!

Graham Onions can find no answer to Jamie Overton's yorker and is bowled second ball.

Overton's team mates rush to huddle him - and rightly so. Onions had no chance.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Vince c Cox b Barnard 10 (Worcs v Hants 106-4)

    Big, big wicket for Worcestershire!

James Vince plays a loose drive and nicks Ed Barnard behind.

It's the young all-rounder's third wicket.

  4. wicket

    Maharaj c Green b J Overton 1 (Somerset v Lancs 99-8)

Won't somebody think of the children?!

Keshav Maharaj pulls Jamie Overton to Ben Green at square leg, the ball soars high - but it's an easy catch for Green.

This is some capitulation from Lancashire.

for Brathwaitepublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Notts 120--0 Yorkshire

The Nottinghamshire dominance continues at Trent Bridge.

Kraigg Brathwaite makes it back-to-back half centuries from 116 balls, with 10 fours in there.

He directs Mathew Pillans through square leg to find his latest boundary, and his batting partner is going at some pace, too: Ben Slater is 61 off 123.

    Essex v Somerset 130-1

Rory Burns and Dean Elgar's stand for Surrey is now worth 100 - Burns has 62, South Africa's Elgar with 44.

Surrey are demonstrating why they are unbeaten this season and heading towards the title.

Yikes - the last thing Lancashire would have wanted!

Jack Leach takes his fourth wicket of the day as he traps Danny Lamb lbw with a delivery that turns.

Lancashire have plenty to do now to try and salvage this mess...

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Soames c Mitchell b Barnard 25 (Worcs v Hampshire 85-3)

It's a second wicket for Ed Barnard, as Oliver Soames is caught by Daryl Mitchell at second slip.

That's a couple of crucial wickets either side of lunch now for Worcestershire in their battle to avoid relegation.

    Essex v Surrey 116-1

    Rory BurnsImage source, Rex Features

Surrey are really in the driving seat now - Rory Burns posts his half-century from 109 balls with eight boundaries.

Successive fours from Sam Cook take the left-hander to 55.

  10. Postpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Essex v Surrey 107-1

It's been 16 years since Surrey last won the County Championship, by the way - so if they managed it this year, it would be long overdue.

They're keeping up a nice pace here against Essex, Rory Burns hitting Jamie Porter for four after lunch before the seamer concedes three byes.

  14. Middlesex on the promotion huntpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Gloucestershire 63-1 v Middlesex - lunch

    Robert Hunt
    BBC Sport at Bristol

Gloucestershire were looking good in the Bristol gloom having been told to bat by Middlesex...

... Until the last ball of the first session, when Miles Hammond was held at gulley by David Malan for 23.

Chris Dent off the back of a double hundred is not out 34.

It looks a docile pitch and Middlesex will have to work hard to get the win that will keep them in the promotion hunt.

  15. Notts pair shine on home debutspublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Notts 104-0 v Yorkshire - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Nottinghamshire made a strong start after being asked to bat first on the opening morning of their County Championship match against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge.

Kraigg Brathwaite and Ben Slater, both on their home debuts, faced a testing opening hour, during which the visitors spilled their only opportunity of the session.

Slater mistimed a pull off Jack Brooks, when on six, but was reprieved when Matthew Waite dropped the chance at midwicket.

The openers accelerated as the morning wore on and Slater’s fifty came from 89 balls.

By lunch he had moved on to 55 and Brathwaite has 43, with Notts on 104 without loss.

  16. Postpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

Okay, with eight of our nine matches at lunch, I'm going to take a break for 20 minutes or so.

Katie Whyatt will be in the chair for the afternoon session.

  17. Toss was main highlight for Lancashirepublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Somerset v Lancashire 72-5 - lunch

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The only part of the morning session which went Lancashire’s way was winning the toss.

What followed was a procession of wickets to leave Lancashire five down.

Steven Croft received a excellent ball from Jack Leach, bounce, turn and then stumped moments later.

Aside from that Somerset haven’t had to work too hard to remove Lancashire’s top order.

  18. Play starting at Edgbastonpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

After the morning session was washed out, they're just about to get under way at Edgbaston where Division Two leaders Warwickshire are batting against Durham.

The other four Division Two games have gone to lunch...

    • Derbyshire 102-4 v Glamorgan
    • Gloucestershire 63-1 v Middlesex
    • Kent 91-4 v Northants
    • Sussex 97-1 v Leicestershire

  19. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Somerset v Lancashire 72-5

I'm not sure Somerset could have hoped for a better start to the game.

Five wickets in a session on a pitch that is already showing signs of some turn.

A big afternoon coming up for both sides.

  20. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Worcestershire v Hampshire 81-2

It's just about even at New Road after the first session.

Josh Tongue picked up the crucial wicket of Jimmy Adams just before the interval.

Oliver Soares is still there on 23 in just his third first-class match.
