for Worcestershirepublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 303-8 v Yorkshire

Useful runs from Ben Twohig, against his native Yorkshire, and Josh Tongue.

Twohig (29) and Tongue (6) have so far put on 33 for the ninth wicket at New Road.

  2. Lancashire pair build standpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire 96-2

The situation is getting tighter and tighter for Lancashire.

The two points collected by Nottinghamshire today mean they need just three more to send the Red Rose county down to Division Two.

But Keaton Jennings (45no) and Liam Livingstone (30) are forging a healthy partnership at the moment, which is currently worth 67.

  3. wicket

WICKET Gregory c Moores b Gurney 10published at 17:24 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 348-6 v Nottinghamshire

It's been a wholehearted effort by paceman Harry Gurney today and he strikes again just before the close as Lewis Gregory is caught behind down the leg-side to give Notts the second of the five points they need to snuff out any possibility of relegation.

Left-armer Gurney has 4-66 as Craig Overton walks to the middle to join Steven Davies.

  4. 100 runs

100 up for the Bearspublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 117-0

Warwickshire are now within 50 runs of Kent.

Will Rhodes is scoring at almost a run a ball, having reached 76, while Dom Sibley plays the understudy role on 32.

It's the Bears openers' fourth century partnership of the summer.

Rhodes looks like he's aiming for a century before the close.

  5. 50 runs

for Steven Daviespublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 345-5 v Nottinghamshire

Somerset's wicketkeeper square cuts Harry Gurney for his second boundary in the over and goes to 50 from 86 balls. It's his fifth of the season, but he has yet to convert one into a hundred.

He'd love to do so in this innings and hoists Matt Carter away for six in the next over by way of celebration.

  6. wicket

WICKET Vijay c Foakes b Dernbach 80published at 17:16 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 158-2

    Jade DernbachImage source, Rex Features

The runs had rather dried up in recent overs for Murali Vijay, and the Essex opener is given out caught behind after a stand of 146 with Tom Westley following a lengthy check by the TV umpire to ensure Jade Dernbach hadn't overstepped the front line.

Westley is still there on 71 not out and the lead is 91.

  7. wicket

WICKET Hildreth c Moores b Gurney 137published at 17:08 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 328-5 v Nottinghamshire

James Hildreth's fine innings comes to an end at Trent Bridge as he tries to drive a ball from Harry Gurney but nicks it through to the keeper.

Hildreth batted for just short of four hours, faced 203 deliveries and hit a six and 20 fours. His stand with Steven Davies added 90 to the Somerset total.

A very healthy over-rate means there are only four and a bit overs scheduled in the day as Lewis Gregory comes to the crease - so we may get one or two extra.

  8. Jennings leads way for Lancspublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire 69-2

Say it quietly - we don't want to make him a victim of the text commentator's curse - but England's Keaton Jennings appears to be enjoying himself at the Ageas Bowl.

Successive fours in the latest over, bowled by Ian Holland, have taken him on to 37 not out, and he now has eight boundaries in all.

Lancashire are still 118 runs in arrears but they have had the better of the day so far.

  9. wicket

WICKET Mitchell c Logan b Brooks 127published at 17:06 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 270-8 v Yorkshire

Daryl Mitchell is finally gone - his second century of the summer against Yorkshire. And it's a fifth wicket for Jack Brooks - the 19th of his career, and third in five matches.

An attempt to pull by the Pears opener, he gets a top edge and it goes down deep square leg's throat.

A well-taken catch on his debut for Yorkshire teenager James Logan.

  10. Division Two updatepublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

Not much fun for batsmen at Wantage Road, where Northants are 112-9 in reply to Sussex's 118 all out - with Ollie Robinson having so far taken 4-45 for the visitors.

Gareth Harte is now 58 not out for Durham, who are 179-3 after 47 overs after bowling out Middlesex for 121.

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 85-0

This is now the eighth time this season that Will Rhodes has reached his half-century.

He has already gone on to reach his ton three times. Can he do so again?

if he did that and then went on to reach 138, he'd have 1,000 Championship runs this season. And, so far, only one other Division Two batsman has done that, his Bears team-mate Ian Bell.

Rhodes now on 53, Dom Sibley on 27.

  12. wicket

Ben Twohig survives the hat-trick ball, which was also a no ball.

WICKET Barnard lbw Brooks 34published at 16:52 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 255-6 v Yorkshire

So Yorkshire are now officially safe!

A second bowling bonus point ensures Division One cricket at Headingley again next season.

Ed Barnard looked disappointed with the LBW decision.

Jack Brooks didn't though. It's his third wicket. The Somerset-bound paceman is is having a productive time with Yorkshire.

    Surrey 67 v Essex 148-1

The new ball is available for Yorkshire after 80 overs at New Road - and they take it.

Pressure on now. Only another 30 overs left to take this one wicket they need to claim a second bowling bonus point - and ensure their Division One survival.

Maybe they will need the help of others after all.

  17. Lancashire look to Jenningspublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire 34-2

    Keaton JenningsImage source, Rex Features

There is no escape for Keaton Jennings.

He was under pressure during England's Test series against India and he is under pressure again now with Lancashire needing to score 400 to retain a slim chance of staying up.

The left-hander has 13 from 34 balls so far, while Liam Livingstone has yet to get off the mark.

  18. Somerset in commandpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 303-4 v Nottinghamshire

Somerset are stepping on the gas a bit at Trent Bridge.

Three fours in Luke Wood's last over - one for Steven Davies and two for James Hildreth - take the total past 300 and earn the visitors batting point.

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire 30-2

Lancashire debutant Brooke Guest struck his maiden first-class boundary of former South Africa Test bowler Kyle Abbott.

But the paceman retaliates in his next over by cutting one back off the seam and bowling the youngster between bat and pad - his 50th wicket of the season.

    A lesson learnt, perhaps.
