  1. Division Two updatepublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

Northants have lost three wickets in the space of five overs and are 88-6 in reply to Sussex's 118 all out on day one at Wantage Road.

Craig Meschede (47 not out) and Graeme Wagg are building a handy partnership for Glamorgan, who are 246-6 in the 70th over against Leicestershire.

Michael Richardson has just been bowled for 50 by Tim Murtagh, but Durham are 136-3, having dismissed Middlesex for just 121 earlier in the day.

Derbyshire's Tony Palladino has reached 50 wickets for the season by bowling Miles Hammond, and Gloucestershire are 43-1 replying to 184 all out by the home side.

  2. 50 runs

stand at Worcesterpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 224-5

A half-century partnership for Daryl Mitchell and Ed Barnard at New Road.

Mitchell whips his 12th four through midwicket for four off Steve Patterson.

He moves on to 95 and Barnard is on 28.

  3. Bears in control at Edgbastonpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 59-0

Just 13 overs gone in reply and Warwickshire already on to 59-0.

Will Rhodes going well on 37. Dom Sibley on 18.

As can sometimes happen in Birmingham, and as Kent's last pair Matt Henry and Adam Riley had shown, this track is suddenly looking a little easier to bat on now.

How much are Kent regretting their decision to bat first now?

  4. 100 runs

for James Hildrethpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 269-4 v Nottinghamshire

James HildrethImage source, BBC Sport/Rex Features

    Easy as you like.

Luke Fletcher drops one short and James Hildreth puts it away through the off-side for his 15th four and goes to 100 off 165 deliveries.

It's his third century of the season and follows him passing 1,000 Championship runs when he reached 48 not out.

What a servant he's been for Somerset. What a shame he hasn't yet received international recognition.

  5. 200 runs

up for Worcestershirepublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 200-5 v Yorkshire

A first batting bonus point for Worcestershire at New Road as the Pears keep Yorkshire waiting for the sixth wicket - and second bowling bonus point - that would officially secure the Tykes' safety.

Daryl Mitchell is still there on 83, with all-rounder Ed Barnard on 13, having so far put on a useful 33.

  6. Postpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

A bit of good news for Yorkshire supporters from earlier today.

    Rashid signs all-format Yorkshire deal

England leg-spinner Adil Rashid will be available to play in all formats for Yorkshire after signing a new one-year contract.

  7. Essex in strong positionpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 130-1 - tea

Essex lead by 63 at tea, with nine wickets remaining, after dominating the first two sessions at The Oval.

Surrey's attack does not include either of the Curran brothers on this occasion, and Murali Vijay and Tom Westley have added 118 with a fair degree of comfort.

Even the normally destructive Morne Morkel has only managed 1-21 from eight overs so far - bowling Nick Browne at the start of the Essex innings.

  8. Five for Sibleypublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 41-0

A sharp single for Dom Sibley is followed by the added bonus of four overthrows. That all adds up to a rare 5 to be signalled by the umpire

It's Sibley's first of the season, says BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Clive Eakin.

Now that is good stat work. It's one thing keeping a record of fours and sixes. But fives too? That is impressive!

  9. wicket

WICKET Davies b Edwards 3published at 15:55 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire 13-1

England's Keaton Jennings launches the Lancashire first innings with two boundaries in the opening over, bowled by Fidel Edwards.

The former West Indies fast bowler gets his radar right in his second, though, and Alex Davies departs, bringing Brooke Guest to the crease for his maiden Championship innings.

He once played for Australia's Under-19 side, but was born in Manchester.

  10. 50 runs

for Tom Westleypublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 124-1

    Tom WestleyImage source, Getty Images

Tom Westley's half-century arrives off 95-balls with an easy single to mid-on from the bowling of spinner Amar Virdi. It's been another fine knock by the England batsman, whose confidence returned after scores of 96 and 178 not out in a second XI game last month.

Westley and Murali Vijay - who has 71 - have so far added 113 for the second wicket and they look good for plenty more.

  11. Durham ahead at homepublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Middlesex 121 v Durham 128-2 - tea

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

It's the final game of the season and for the first time Durham have a first innings lead at home this season - and only the third in 13 innings too!

Michael Richardson (43) and Gareth Harte (37) have worked hard for their runs to put a partnership together of 81 in 19.1 overs.

It was hard going for them initially after Durham lost Alex Lees for 25 and Cameron Steel for 21. Richardson was particularly watchful and took 15 balls to get off the mark.

But both batsmen have settled into a nice routine. Maybe it's a reaction to last week's debacle at Leicester?

  12. Glamorgan make 'solid progress'published at 15:43 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Glamorgan 228-6 v Leicestershire - tea

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

Glamorgan made solid progress through the afternoon session adding a further 119 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Kiran Carlson made a sparkling 83 before playing on to Ben Mike, adding 52 for the fifth wicket with Jeremy Lawlor, who contributed just two of them.

Chris Cooke (27) and Craig Meschede (39 not out) then put together a stand of 59 before the Foxes’ most economical bowler Gavin Griffiths had Cooke caught behind.

More of the home members’ attention was focused on a forum in which chief executive Hugh Morris announced an independent review of their poor season, as well as speaking of the need to recruit two senior batsmen for 2019.

  13. Bright start for Bearspublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 18-0

Decent start from the Warwickshire openers at Edgbaston.

Will Rhodes and Dom Sibley have taken 18 off the first three overs sent down by Matt Henry and Darren Stevens, at 42, the oldest new ball bower in the Championship.

Having taken three bowling bonus points and denied Kent any batting points, their first target is now simply to reach 200 - and a first batting point.

That would mean a draw would be enough to win the title.

  14. wicket

WICKET Abell c Mullaney b Carter 42published at 15:38 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 241-4 v Nottinghamshire

Back out after tea at Trent Bridge, and the break does Tom Abell no favours as he edges spinner Matt Carter to slip, where Steven Mullaney grabs it at the second attempt. He added 94 for the fourth wicket with James Hildreth, who is 91 not out.

  15. Division Two updatepublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

We're a bit late for tea at three of our grounds.

Durham are 114-2 after 30 overs after bowling out Middlesex for 121, with Gareth Harte 36 not out and Michael Richardson on 32.

Craig Meschede is unbeaten on 39 out of Glamorgan's 226-6 in the 62nd over against Leicestershire.

Sussex are fighting back after being skittled for 118 by Northants, who are 79-4 after 22 overs in reply.

At Derby, the final session is already under way with Gloucestershire 15-0 in the fourth over, having dismissed the home side for 184 - with Craig Miles claiming 5-50.

  16. Tea at New Roadpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 179-5 v Yorkshire

From looking comfortable at 131-1, with Moeen Ali batting beautifully on 60, the Pears fell away in the second half of the post -lunch session following the England all-rounder's needless departure.

Worcestershire go to tea 21 runs short of a batting bonus point, with Daryl Mitchell still there on 71.

Far more crucially, Yorkshire are one wicket short of a second bowling point.

And that would be enough to ensure they stay in Division One next season.

  17. wicket

WICKET Edwards c Livingstone b Bailey 14published at 15:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire

That's tea at the Ageas Bowl as Fidel Edwards - from a position outside leg stump - carves a ball from Lancashire paceman Tom Bailey to mid-off. Bailey finishes with 4-57 and has 60 wickets for the season now.

So Lancashire have three bowling points and 'the great escape' is still on - if only just.

Can they now underline their efforts in the field by scoring at least 400 with the bat?

  18. 50 runs

for Murali Vijaypublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 83-1

    Murali VijayImage source, Getty Images

Murali Vijay has taken to county cricket much with the same enthusiasm and success as a mallard landing on a large and previously unknown lake.

The only difference is that India's opener appears to be unflappable (candidate for worst joke of the year?)

Vijay's scores have been 56, 100, 85 and now 50 not out as a single off Samit Patel takes him to a 71-ball half-century.

  19. Somerset pair build standpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 237-3 v Nottinghamshire - tea

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Somerset brought up their first batting point on the opening afternoon of their match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The visitors reached tea with James Hildreth unbeaten on 90 and he has added 91 for the fourth wicket with Tom Abell, who has 42.

Marcus Trescothick, unbeaten on 55 at lunch, advanced his score to 71 before hitting the first ball of a new spell from Harry Gurney straight to Ben Duckett in the covers.

  20. wicket

WICKET Riley lbw Sidebottom 11published at 15:10 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

Kent 167 all out v Warwickshire

Kent are all out at Edgbaston.

Ryan Sidebottom gets the final wicket - his first - as last man Adam Riley is adjudged leg before wicket.

It ends a stand of 42 that had begun to become a bit worrying for the Bears.

Keith Barker, Chris Wright and Olly Stone all ended up with three victims each.

They will now take an early tea in Birmingham, after which Matt Henry, the country's leading wicket taker, will no doubt be looking forward to a bowl on this.

The New Zealand Test paceman has so far taken 74 Division Two wickets this season. And he will be well fired up for more after his unbeaten 31 with the bat.
