    Somerset 146-3 v Nottinghamshire

    Harry GurneyImage source, Rex Features

That's a soft dismissal for Marcus Trescothick, who doesn't fully commit to a cover drive and hits it straight to Ben Duckett at cover. It's Harry Gurney's second wicket and ends a stand of 71 with James Hildreth.

Trescothick's dismissal earns Notts the first of five points they need from the game to be guaranteed Division One cricket next summer.

  2. wicket

WICKET Stevens lbw Wright 8published at 13:56 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 108-7 v Warwickshire

Darren Stevens is next to go at Edgbaston as the Bears pacemen continue to dominate.

He just appears to miss a straight one, possibly a bit late on the shot, as he is trapped leg before wicket. A second wicket for Chris Wright.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Daryl Mitchellpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 133-2 v Yorkshire

Former Worcestershire captain Daryl Mitchell passes 50 for the 83rd time in his first-class career. He has gone to reach three figures 34 times before.

  4. Double for Gleesonpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 113-7 v Lancashire

While we were describing events elsewhere, there has been another wicket at the Ageas Bowl. After bowling Ian Holland, Richard Gleeson struck again with the final ball of the same over as Lewis McManus was caught at first slip.

Gleeson is generating the kind of pace to explain why Lancashire signed him from Northamptonshire and he has 3-17 from 10 overs so far.

  5. wicket

WICKET Browne b Morkel 2published at 13:50 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 12-1

You were warned not to write Surrey off (see 13:38 entry) and that's why. South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel flattens Nick Browne's middle stump and he is going to be a real handful on this surface. Murali Vijay is looking reasonably secure on 10 not out as he is joined by Tom Westley.

  6. Division Two updatepublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

Away from Edgbaston, here is what's happening:

Northants have just wrapped up the Sussex first innings, bowling them out for just 118. Brett Hutton had Danny Briggs lbw, the 150th first-class wicket of his career, but Ben Sanderson (4-32) was the pick of the home attack.

Durham are 10-0 in the fourth over at the Riverside after dismissing Middlesex for 121. James Harris' 31 was the highest score for the visitors as Matt Salisbury claimed 6-37.

Glamorgan's Kiran Carlson has gone for 83 in Cardiff, bowled by Ben Mike, and they are 148-4 in the 36th over against Leicestershire.

Derbyshire have advanced to 132-4 in the 38th over against Gloucestershire, for whom Craig Miles and Ryan Higgins have two wickets each.

  7. wicket

    WICKET Moeen c Kohler-Cadmore b Patterson 60published at 13:49 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 131-2 v Yorkshire

Yorkshire skipper Steve Patterson gets the key wicket of Moeen Ali.

Attempting to pull, he ends up edging to slip.

This is only Moeen's third Championship appearance of the season - and Yorkshire will be simply thrilled that two of them have been against the Tykes.

His last appearance for the Pears was at Scarborough in August - and he whacked the hosts for 219 as Worcestershire rattled up 572-7 declared - and beat Yorkshire by an innings.

But this time, after a highly entertaining both pre- and post-prandial cameo, they will be pleased to have have got him comparatively cheaply.

New man is the departing Joe Clarke. He does not get anything like the reception accorded to Moeen earlier.

  8. 100 runs

Century stand at New Roadpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 131-1 v Yorkshire

Moeen Ali and Daryl Mitchell going nicely on four runs per over as they complete a century partnership.

Moeen has now hit 12 boundaries in his 60, but may have just given half a chance. An edge that may or may not have carried.

The BBC commentary team at New Road are undecided.

  9. wicket

WICKET Holland b Gleeson 1published at 13:42 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 112-6 v Lancashire

Recent Lancashire signing Richard Gleeson rips out Ian Holland's off stump with a delivery which the batsman seems to indicate kept a little lower than he expected. There's the second of the 24 points Lancashire need to take from this game to have any chance of beating the drop.

  10. wicket

WICKET Billings lbw Barker 17published at 13:39 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 102-6 v Warwickshire

Kent are now definitely in trouble at Edgbaston as Keith Barker gets a second wicket. This time it's captain Sam Billings.

He is off balance and a good stride down the track but he is adjudged leg before wicket.

Two bowling bonus points now for the Bears, who edge further ahead in the battle of the top two.

New man in is Grant Stewart.

  11. 'Don't write off Surrey'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

If Essex were looking to lay down a marker as challengers to Surrey next season this could hardly have been more emphatic.

It was a brilliant exhibition by the Essex seamers who bowled a consistently full length to exploit the extravagant movement on offer.

Jamie Porter, enjoying a strong end to the season , strengthened the impression that he is ready for Test cricket and Sam Cook was equally outstanding as the pair shared eight wickets.

But the Surrey attack are still to have a go on this pitch and it should be remembered that Yorkshire only made 50 against Essex at Chelmsford, but still won. It would be foolish to write Surrey off here.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Moeen Alipublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 120-1 v Yorkshire

Moeen Ali is the first Worcestershire batsman to his 50 as he picks up boundaries off successive balls off Jack Brooks.

He moves on to 52, Daryl Mitchell is on 46.

  13. 6 runs

Hildreth on the attackpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Somerset 120-2 v Nottinghamshire

Somerset have begun the afternoon positively at Trent Bridge, with James Hildreth clouting spinner Matt Carter over mid-wicket for six.

He has moved on to 26 not out and Marcus Trescothick has 61 at the other end.

  14. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Worcestershire 101-1 v Yorkshire

Yorkshire wicketkeeper Jonny Tattersall inexplicably drops Daryl Mitchell on 43 off Jack Brooks.

A routine catch. It went in and then straight out again. And, although it deflected into the catchment area of first slip Tom Kohler-Cadmore alongside him, the former Worcestershire batsman could not snaffle it either.

  15. wicket

WICKET Pope c Bopara b Cook 26published at 13:24 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex

Surely Surrey's worst day of the season so far as they are all out in just 27 overs. It's their lowest total since being dismissed for 64 by Hampshire in 1986.

Essex paceman Sam Cook finishes with 4-27 as he removes Ollie Pope - one of only two Surrey batsmen to reach double figures - with the help of Ravi Bopara's catch at mid-wicket.

Jamie Porter's final figures are 4-26 - but what can the Surrey attack do on this pitch?

  16. wicket

WICKET Dawson c Jennings b Mahmood 10published at 13:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Hampshire 101-5 v Lancashire

Early success for Lancashire at the Ageas Bowl as a loose shot by Liam Dawson sees him edge Saqib Mahmood to Keaton Jennings at first slip. Ian Holland comes out to join Sam Northeast.

  17. wicket

WICKET Denly c Sibley b Stone 30published at 13:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 89-5 v Warwickshire

Olly Stone strikes again. He gets the wicket of his Sri Lanka tour colleague Joe Denly for 29. The former Kent captain edges to Dom Sibley, who takes it a sharp chance to his right at second slip to earn Stone a third scalp.

40 for the season now for Stone in the Championship, in only his seventh game!

The ever reliable Darren Stevens is next man in, to join his captain Sam Billings, who is on 10.

  18. Billings makes bold entrypublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Kent 89-4 v Warwickshire

Kent captain Sam Billings makes a lively start at Edgbaston on the restart. He is already into double figures after two boundaries.

  19. wicket

WICKET Dernbach b Cook 4published at 13:19 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 62-9 v Essex

The less said the better about that stroke, really. Jade Dernbach tries to give Sam Cook the old heave-ho, misses and his middle stump is knocked back.

One can only imagine what Alec Stewart is making of this.

  20. wicket

WICKET Morkel c Wheater b Porter 1published at 13:15 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

    Surrey 57-8 v Essex

The afternoon begins as the morning ended at The Oval with Surrey losing another wicket. Morne Morkel edges to the keeper and Jamie Porter is in sight of yet another 'five-for'.
