    Worcestershire 340, Yorkshire 262-8

Newly crowned champions Surrey now face the task of batting for the best part of two days to preserve their unbeaten record for the season.

Paceman Jade Dernbach is the pick of Surrey's attack, with 4-95 from 29.2 overs.

Done in the grand manner, Simon Harmer goes to three figures with a six over long-on, the second of his innings. It's taken him 153 balls and has also included 11 fours.

His only previous first-class hundred was scored for Eastern Province against Boland in 2011-12.

  5. wicket

WICKET Vince c Davies b Bohannon 19published at 16:19 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 & 84-5 v Lancashire 273

  6. Harmer closes on centurypublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 465-8

Simon Harmer finds the boundary off Amar Virdi and pinches a single from the next delivery. He'll have the strike for the next over and is 94 not out. Can the South African make it to three figures for the first time in English cricket?

  7. Bears back in controlpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 375-8

Not that it really matters much - but, having now reached 110 overs of the Warwickshire innings at Edgbaston, the Bears have outdone Kent on bonus points by 7 to 2 in this match.

Quite a margin. As is the Bears' lead - by more than 200 now.

It would mean that, if Warwickshire do go on to win this game, they would win the Division Two title by 21 points.

Chris Wright (38) and Jeetan Patel (27) have now put on 51 for the ninth wicket against an increasingly disheartened Kent attack, who have turned to spin again after Matt Henry made the breakthrough with the new ball.

21 overs left in the day at Edgbaston.

WICKET Cook c Foakes b Dernbach 1published at 16:13 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 456-8

Two wickets in successive overs for Jade Dernbach as Sam Cook gloves to the keeper as a bouncer heads towards his helmet. Number eleven Matt Quinn comes out for Essex - and there is no word yet on whether Adam Wheater will be able to resume his innings.

  9. wicket

WICKET Porter lbw Dernbach 11published at 16:08 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 450-7

Jade Dernbach takes his third wicket of the innings as Jamie Porter departs. With Adam Wheater having retired hurt, Simon Harmer is in danger of running out of partners before he reaches three figures. He is currently 84 not out. Essex's lead is 383.

  10. Division Two updatepublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

Northamptonshire have made a positive start in their bid to score 170 to beat Sussex, reaching 32-0 after seven overs with Ben Curran and Ricardo Vasconcelos both 15 not out.

Glamorgan have lost Stephen Cook for seven after deciding not to make Leicestershire follow-on in Cardiff. They are 17-1 and 244 runs in front.

James Logan does not last long in his first innings in first-class cricket.

The Yorkshire debutant's dismissal is the first wicket of the day for England's Moeen Ali.

It was only the ninth over of spin from the Worcestershire stand-in skipper, who has opted to give more use to slow left-armer Ben Twohig.

    Worcestershire 340, Yorkshire 232-7

    Gary BallanceImage source, Rex Features

England's Gary Ballance matches the efforts of Daryl Mitchell 24 hours earlier by also reaching the 35th century of his career. But it's his first against Worcestershire.

He brings up his ton with his 18th boundary, a good few of which have been driven beautifully through the covers.

  13. wicket

WICKET Northeast lbw Bohannon 11published at 15:55 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 & 65-4 v Lancashire 273

A bad start to the final session by Hampshire as Sam Northeast is given out lbw to Josh Bohannon. He shakes his head as he walks away from the middle. Liam Dawson is the new batsman - and they need 21 more to clear the deficit.

  14. Wheater retires hurtpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 441-6

Adam Wheater hasn't been able to resume his innings following a blow on the thumb from a ball by Morne Morkel just before tea. He has retired hurt on 68 and Jamie Porter is Simon Harmer's new partner as the final session gets under way at The Oval.

  15. wicket

WICKET Libby c Hildreth b Davey 12published at 15:43 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 133 & 17-1

Jake Libby is dismissed for the second time today as he dangles his bat limply at a ball from Josh Davey and James Hildreth snatches the chance at first slip. Notts need another 313 to avoid an innings defeat as Steven Mullaney comes to the crease.

  16. Glamorgan decide against follow-onpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Glamorgan 359 v Leicestershire 132

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

It’s a rare moment to savour for Welsh supporters with their side enjoying a first-innings lead for the first time since the opening match of the season, which they won against Gloucestershire.

Leicestershire were dismissed for just 132 with only Harry Dearden, ninth out for 48, providing much resistance.

The effervescent Graham Wagg set the ball rolling as he had Colin Ackermann and Mark Cosgrove caught behind with successive balls either side of lunch.

All the other Glamorgan bowlers chipped in with wickets, but Michael Hogan decided to give them a rest and did not enforce the follow-on.

  17. Essex build huge leadpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 441-6 - tea

It's tea at The Oval where Essex lead by 374, thanks to an unbroken partnership of 159 between Simon Harmer and Adam Wheater.

Harmer is 80 not out and Wheater has 68, despite taking a painful blow from fast bowler Morne Morkel.

The visitors are 374 ahead and it looks like being a difficult end to the summer for champions Surrey.

  18. wicket

WICKET Stone lbw Podmore 3published at 15:38 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 324-8

Olly Stone gets trapped in front by Harry Podmore in the second over after tea.

It's a third wicket for former Middlesex, Glamorgan and Derbyshire paceman Podmore.

The Bears lead by 157 as Jeetan Patel walks to the crease. The Bears captain knows his side could well still need a fair few more than that.

  19. Vince aims for 1,000published at 15:32 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 & 65-3 v Lancashire 273 - tea

Having been overlooked for England's tour to Sri Lanka, there's a personal goal at stake for James Vince in his final innings of the summer.

The Hampshire batsman began it needing 57 runs to reach 1,000 in the Championship this season - and he has reduced that number by 13 so far, with a boundary off Saqib Mahmood in the last over.

Sam Northeast is 11 not out at the other end at tea, and Hampshire are only 21 runs away from clearing the first-innings deficit.

  20. Notts on the back footpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 363 v Nottinghamshire 133 & 1-0

It's all about saving face now for Notts, after being forced to follow on by Somerset, and only one run comes from the first four overs of their second innings.

They are staying up, but they won't want to end the summer with an innings defeat.
