Overton injury blowpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 57-3

Somerset fast bowler Jamie Overton pulls up with an injury after two balls of his latest over and has to leave the field. Lewis Gregory completes it.

Overton's had enough injury problems in his career, so let's hope it's nothing too serious.

  4. wicket

WICKET Jones lbw Holland 68published at 13:21 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire 241-7

Rob Jones somehow misses a straight one from medium-pacer Ian Holland and the decision is a formality for the umpire after it strikes him on the rear pad.

Bad news for Lancashire, but they did benefit from the award of five penalty runs during the lunch interval after the ball hit the fielding helmet at the end of the morning session.

  5. Essex look to extend leadpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 288-6

The afternoon session begins in similar fashion to the morning at The Oval with Morne Morkel and Rikki Clarke bowling in tandem for Surrey.

Morkel sends down a maiden to Simon Harmer, but the Essex spinner picks up three runs in the next, and there are two singles for Adam Wheater as the lead reaches 221.

  6. wicket

WICKET Hain lbw Riley 3published at 13:18 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 236-4

Spinner Adam Riley strikes in the first over after lunch.

Sam Hain is leg before wicket. His three runs took 33 deliveries.

Kent are fighting back well in this game.

They will end up behind on bonus points whatever happens in this game now. And Warwickshire only need to avoid defeat to become Division Two champions.

But, if Kent do not end up too far behind on first innings - and then bat better second time around - they could still win the game.

The Bears currently lead by just 69 as Tim Ambrose walks out to bat.

  7. Back on at New Roadpublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Worcestershire 340, Yorkshire 93-3

After that wicket in the final over before lunch, Yorkshire's new man in is Tom Kohler-Cadmore, back on familiar soil. And he is already off the mark.

This is his first Championship innings back at New Road since his unexpectedly abrupt departure to Headingley last summer. But he did play in a T20 for the Tykes in mid-July - making just 5 in Yorkshire's narrow 12-run win.

That was one of just four defeats suffered in this yea's Blast by the newly crowned winners.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Duckett c Trescothick b C Overton 0published at 13:12 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 50-3

First ball after lunch and Craig Overton finds the edge of Ben Duckett's bat, with Marcus Trescothick accepting the chance at second slip.

That may cause a flicker of a smile on Lancashire-supporting faces.

  9. Back on at Edgbastonpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Kent 167 v Warwickshire 236-3

    Michael Perkins
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Warwickshire resume their first innings leading by 69, now knowing that all they have to do is not lose to become Division Two champions.

Kent will be satisfied with their morning’s work picking up all those wickets, overnight centurion Will Rhodes, Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott,

Another before lunch would have made things very interesting but Kent will feel more in this game than they did at the start of the day.

  10. Surrey 'face long rearguard'published at 13:09 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 282-6

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

A much more even second morning saw Essex extend their lead to 215 with four wickets left.

Tom Westley reached his second century in consecutive away games with two boundaries, but was made to work for his runs against a Surrey attack that contained Essex well.

He was disappointed to get out just before lunch but can reflect on an excellent end to what had been a very disappointing season.

Surrey face a long rearguard in their second innings, but their four wickets in the session will renew hope that they can at least avoid defeat in this final game.

  11. Middlesex have work cut outpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Middlesex 121 & 5-0 v Durham 310

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Gareth Harte's second century of the summer helped Durham to their first 300-plus total of the season in a first innings here at Chester-le-Street. They were also their first batting points here in 2018 against the red ball!

Harte resumed on his overnight score of 76 and eventually reached his 100 in 196 balls with six fours.

He fell for 112 to the bowling of Tim Murtagh, edging him to Stevie Eskinazi at second slip. The innings was over a ball later when Chris Rushworth gloved Murtagh to the keeper to go for a first-ball duck.

  12. T10 or not T10published at 13:06 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

How many of you knew there was such a thing as a T10 league?

Well, there is - and four Sussex players are going to be part of it.

Presumably a 10-over format does not suit the ECB as they continue pondering what the rules should be for 'The Hundred', which we are led to believe will only have balls, not overs.

  14. Mullaney setback for Nottspublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 50-2 - lunch

In the immediate pre-lunch rush, we omitted to describe the downfall of Nottinghamshire's Steven Mullaney.

Rather than us playing catch-up, here's James Hildreth doing so.

    Kent 167 v Warwickshire 236-3 - lunch

Jonathan Trott was given a standing ovation from the crowd and a guard of honour from Kent's fielders as he walked out for what maybe his final innings of an illustrious career.

He was soon heading back though after one of the few players older than him left in the county game, Darren Stevens, held a spectacular one-handed catch.

Kent have fought back in the morning session, claiming three wickets for 88 runs, with Will Rhodes gone for 110 and Ian Bell for 16.

But Dom Sibley has batted on impressively to reach 82 and keep Warwickshire in a strong position to take the Division Two title.

  19. Hope lives on for Lancashirepublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 v Lancashire 239-6

Hope, it is said, springs eternal - and with Nottinghamshire losing their second wicket just before lunch against Somerset, hope is still there in Lancashire hearts.

The Red Rose county added 116 runs during the morning at the Ageas Bowl for the loss of only two wickets, but need a whole lot more to boost their batting points total.

Rob Jones has played an excellent innings so far, hitting 11 fours in his 68 not out, and Josh Bohannon has 10.

  20. Somerset tighten their grippublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 50-2 - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Somerset strengthened their grip over Nottinghamshire on the second morning of their County Championship match at Trent Bridge.

The visitors, looking to secure second place in the table, advanced their first innings score to 463 before being bowled out and Notts then lost Jake Libby in the first over of their reply.

Libby nicked the second ball of Lewis Gregory’s opening over to fourth slip, where Jack Leach parried the ball to Craig Overton at third.

Steven Mullaney was out just before the break, nicking Craig Overton to slip for 21.
