  1. Tea at New Roadpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Worcestershire 340, Yorkshire 214-7

Gary Ballance's excellent unbeaten 89 has held Yorkshire together at New Road this afternoon.

No other Tykes batsman has got more than the 27 from opener Adam Lyth.

in a decent run of September form, it follows his 104 against Nottinghamshire and 85 in the Roses match win which effectively relegated Lancashire.

Yorkshire still trail by 126 runs.

  2. Harmer in the runspublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 440-6

Simon Harmer has yet to make a Championship century - but he's got his sights firmly set on one at The Oval. Two fours and a single off spinner Amar Virdi take the South African to 79 not out and Essex are now 373 in front against the new county champions.

  3. Northants set for run-chasepublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Sussex 118 & 222 v Northamptonshire 171 - tea

Ben Cotton finishes with 5-48 as Sussex are bowled out for 222 at Wantage Road, with Chris Jordan the last to go, run out by Brett Hutton for 47.

  4. Somerset enforce follow-onpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 133

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset commentator

A hat-trick for Tom Abell! A champagne moment if ever there was one, for the hugely popular Somerset captain.

His feat was closely followed by another champagne moment for Somerset followers - the news that Marcus Trescothick has signed a one-year extension to his contract, which will see him opening the batting for at least one more season.

All that and Somerset have bowled Notts out for 133 and asked them to follow on 330 runs behind. It’s been quite an afternoon!

Dom Sibley is finally out at Edgbaston. And it takes the country's leading wicket taker to do it, Matt Henry.

Sibley has now made three centuries in four innings, but his hopes of carrying his bat in this one are ended by a first wicket of the innings for Henry - and his 75th of the season, in just 11 matches.

Henry's wicket, with the first ball of his 18th over, is the cue for a cup of tea in Birmingham.

  7. Essex pair break recordpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Surrey 67 v Essex 423-6

History at The Oval where Adam Wheater and Simon Harmer have set a new seventh-wicket partnership record for Essex against Surrey. The previous best was 124 by Johnny Douglas and Charlie McGahey at Leyton in 1910.

Harmer hits a six off Amar Virdi to move on to 70 not out. Wheater has 60 and their stand is now worth 141.

  8. Bears chase fourth batting pointpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Kent 167, Warwickshire 317-6

Warwickshire now 150 ahead - and Dom Sibley's occupation of the crease has gone past six hours.

He is now on 119, having put on a further 24 for the seventh wicket with Chris Wright, who is again showing his prowess with the bat. So much more than a reliable nightwatchman. It will be interesting to see just how high up the order he bats when he moves to Leicestershire next season.

10 overs left now for batting or bowling points - but that is all immaterial as far as this game is concerned.

Kent have to win to lift the Divison Two title.

The Bears simply need to avoid defeat.

  9. wicket

WICKET Adams lbw Gleeson 13published at 15:07 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 & 39-3 v Lancashire 273

What a sad way for Jimmy Adams' final first-class innings to end. He offers no stroke to ball by Richard Gleeson and the umpire decides it has come back enough to give him out lbw.

Fast bowler Gleeson has all three wickets to fall so far. Lancashire may be going down, but at least they are in with a good chance of ending the summer with a victory.

  10. Division Two updatepublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

Northants seamer Ben Cotton has completed a five-for -the first of his career - which has helped reduce Sussex to 215-9. They are 162 in front with their last pair together.

Glamorgan are on top in Cardiff, with Leicestershire 101-8 in the 44th over, replying to the Welsh county's 359 all out.

Paul Collingwood's dismissal of Sam Robson (see 14:46 entry) has yet to be followed by Durham against Middlesex, who are 78-1 in their second innings - now 111 behind.

Derbyshire's Tom Lace has been trapped lbw by Benny Howell for 17 and they are 84-4, 104 in front of Gloucestershire.

WICKET Weatherley c Davies b Gleeson 16published at 15:00 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hampshire 187 & 27-2 v Lancashire 273

No idea what Joe Weatherley was trying to do there, but the ball bounced more than he anticipated and Alex Davies takes a catch behind the stumps. Both Hampshire openers gone now. They are still 59 behind.

  12. wicket

WICKET Patterson b Tongue 6published at 14:58 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Worcestershire 340, Yorkshire 193-7

With the follow-on avoidance target reached, Yorkshire lose a seventh wicket at New Road.

Tykes skipper Steve Patterson is bowled by Josh Tongue, who takes his third wicket - and 40th in the Championship this season.

He got 47 in 14 Division Two matches last season. To get 40 in Division One this season in Division One, in three less games (after missing two months with a foot injury) is an even better effort.

  13. HAT-TRICK BY TOM ABELLpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 25 September 2018
    Breaking

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 133

Would you Adam and Eve it!

Somerset captain Tom Abell completes a hat-trick - the first by a Somerset bowler since 2014 - as last man Harry Gurney prods a catch to gully.

Luke Wood is left unbeaten on 35 - and surely Notts will be asked to follow-on.

Abell's figures are 1.3 overs, one maiden, one run conceded, three wickets. Tea will now be taken.

WICKET Fletcher c Trescothick b Abell 12published at 14:50 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Somerset 463 v Nottinghamshire 133-9

A stand of 48 for Nottinghamshire's eight-wicket comes to an end as Luke Fletcher edges Tom Abell to second slip. Marcus Trescothick doesn't need to move to take the catch and Abell finds himself on a hat-trick after Matt Carter tries to drive the next delivery and James Hildreth, at first slip, picks up a low chance.

  15. wicket

WICKET Bresnan c Mitchell b Pennington 7published at 14:49 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Worcestershire 340, Yorkshire 184-6

Six out now for Yorkshire at New Road as Tim Bresnan goes cheaply, caught well down low to his right by Daryl Mitchell to earn Dillon Pennington a first wicket.

It's Mitchell's 21st Championship catch of the season, the most taken by any fielder in the top flight this season (wicketkeepers excepted, of course).

In all three forms of the game combined, Mitchell has now successfully pouched 374 catches - and not dropped many. One of the safest pairs of hands in cricket.

    Middlesex 121 & 56-1 v Durham 310

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Paul Collingwood is retiring this week at the age of 42. He told us on air this morning he wasn't sure if he would bowl in his final game because of an Achilles issue which has caused problems this season.

It tightened up again after a hopping race against his daughters on Sunday - but there was also a suggestion he might go for a bit of symmetry to book-end his career.

He took a wicket with his first ball in Championship cricket here in 1996 when seeing off Northants' David Capel. And he has now claimed wicket number 140 after bowling Sam Robson for 36 with his third ball of the day.
