  1. SL 253-6published at 48.4 overs

The crowd roars in delight as Dananjaya finds a very welcome boundary. Curran scrunches up his face in disgust. Not his best.

It's so hard to bowl that back of the hand slower ball and then to get the seam in the same position is remarkable. That's why batsmen can't pick it, because they're watching the seam instead of the hand.

  3. SL 249-6published at 48.3 overs

Now Tom Curran wipes his sweaty face with a towel. This is demanding stuff.

In the last 12 deliveries, Sri Lanka haven't managed better than a single.

England are closing this out well.

  4. SL 246-6published at 48 overs

    Thisara 39, Akila 15

Chris Woakes' fringe is wet with sweat and his shirt is sticking to him a little in this heat but that's a really good over from England's senior fast bowler. Only singles come from it. Thisara isn't finding the middle.

The sun is out again. There's absolutely no sign of rain.

  5. SL 243-6published at 47.3 overs

Another slower ball... Skied by Akila...

Olly Stone aborts going for the catch at third man. If he had have gone for it, he'll probably have lost a few teeth.

    It wouldn't have carried.

  6. SL 242-6published at 47.2 overs

Woakes starts with two excellent slower balls. Neither are middled by the batsmen. Just singles.

  7. Postpublished at 08:40 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

Chris Woakes is back to bowl the final two overs from this end.

  8. SL 240-6published at 47 overs

    Thisara 36, Akila 12

The big dipper of a slower ball from Tom Curran almost beats Akila Dananjaya but the batsman gets enough bat on it to scamper one.

He'll keep the strike. England probably won't mind that.

    Three to go.

  9. 6 runs

    SL 238-6published at 46.3 overs

Big Thisara Perera opens up his arms with a hefty flick over the leg side. It goes all the way!

Can he drag Sri Lanka to 260?

  10. SL 232-6published at 46.2 overs

Oh Moeen. That's proper village stuff. He lets the ball go through his legs to allow the Sri Lankans to steal a single.

Any pace on this pitch, the batsmen have found it quite easy to hit down the ground. Slower balls are the way forward.

  12. SL 229-6published at 46 overs

    Stone 7-0-50-0

Olly Stone shows he isn't all about pace. He throws in a couple of decent slower balls to keep the batsmen guessing.

  13. SL 226-6published at 45.4 overs

Two dots from Stone to Akila. The new batsman is struggling. He has five from 10 balls at the end of this innings.

I was once run out for 49 playing up in Stirling. I'm not known for my batting so I was especially gutted. I'd given the girl who ran me out a lift up to Scotland and I threatened to leave her there.

A two and a one for Thisara to start. Decent from Stone.

  16. SL 223-6published at 45 overs

This might be the over Thisara Perera looks to charge. Olly Stone is continuing.

The praise England have received for their work in the field so far this series has been justified, but today those high standards have slipped.

Too many fumbles and loose throws that have relieved pressure on Sri Lanka.

  18. SL 223-6published at 45 overs

    Thisara 27, Akila 5

Curran just mixes it up so well in this situation. He first goes for a slower bouncer that Akila tries to ramp over Buttler but there isn't enough pace on the ball for a boundary. Now a perfect yorker from Curran. You can't hit that for four.

Now Eoin Morgan has his hands on his head after missing with a run-out attempt with one stump to aim at. It would have been out. Curran applauds his skippers efforts though.

    Five from the over.

  19. SL 218-6published at 44 overs

Tom Curran is back. I think he'll finish off this innings.

The Surrey quick could force his way into England's World Cup team with more good death bowling.

All these comedy run outs aren't actually funny at the time. You can't laugh about them when they happen. It's tough for me because I find things funny that I shouldn't.
