  1. Eng 32-4published at 7.5 overs

Batting, bowling and fielding all superb from Sri Lanka here, in stark contrast to their previous showings in this series.

What runs on the board does for a side, eh?

Moeen Ali is the new man in - he's not going to die wondering and creams a half-volley through point for four. Heck of a shot that.

That is a clean, brilliant catch.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 7.2 overs

    Root c Sadeera b Chameera 10 (Eng 28-4)

Joe Root miscues a checked drive off Dusmantha Chameera and the ball loops towards point off a thick outside edge.

Sadeera Samarawickrama dives forward to snaffle a superb low catch.

Replays show his fingers were clearly under the ball as he held on.

More delight for Sri Lanka. England are having a woeful day.

    Soft signal is out.

First replays suggest nothing wrong with this take.

  5. Third umpirepublished at 7.2 overs

Joe Root has just been caught out.

It was a low take and he's not sure so the umpires are having a look.

I think the England batsman will be gone though.

Dean Czyz: Can people not accept that playing this way gets us to 3-0 and series win? They are going to fail every now and then, and I’d rather it be winning the series 3-0 on the last game! Get a grip people.

  7. Eng 28-3published at 7 overs

    Target 367

Stokes would've been miles out, if only the throw had hit or Thisara Perera had the presence of mind to get to the stumps to gather the incoming throw.

Root picks up three from the last ball and finally get his bat tape during the change over.

  8. Not outpublished at 6.5 overs

Superb call from Aleem Dar. The ball pitched outside leg stump and that's not out.

Sri Lanka still had a big chance to get Ben Stokes out then but made a hash of the run out.

It looks close on impact but where did it pitch?

  10. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 6.5 overs

Dearie me. Kasun Rajitah brings one back into Ben Stokes' pads. Big appeal but not given.

The ball deflects away and Joe Root starts running for the leg bye but Stokes is caught on the crease.

The throw misses and Stokes gets in.

Sri Lanka send it upstairs to review the lbw shout.

England should be 118-3 on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern.

  12. Eng 23-3published at 6 overs

    Target 367

Joe Root pushes crisply on the up through the covers and runs well to pick up three.

The England Test captain needs some tape for his bat...but Chris Woakes has forgotten to bring it. Root is not pleased.

Strange day for England. They seem pretty narked at each other.

Josh Cooper: Am I the only one struggling to be bothered about this? An implosion, yes, but in a game that doesn't matter with a team that probably won't start another game...

  14. Eng 18-3published at 5 overs

    Root 2, Stokes 11

Excellent work from Kasun Rajitha, bowling a tight line and length to concede just one from the over.

If you pick a team that plays this expansively it is part of the deal. You have to accept the odd major aberration.

  16. Eng 17-3published at 4 overs

Ben Stokes climbs into a short ball but doesn't quite time it so has to settle for two.

He times this one though - clipping deliciously off his hips once again for four more.

  17. How's stat?!published at 14:41 British Summer Time 23 October 2018

    Andy Zaltzman
    The Cricket Social statistician

It is only the fourth time England have been three wickets down in ODI cricket with the score on single figures.

  18. Eng 11-3published at 3.1 overs

Cripes. Joe Root edges his first ball down and just past second slip to get off the mark with a single.

  19. Eng 10-3published at 3 overs

    Target 367

Ben Stokes times it exquisitely off his hips to pick up four.

Both times Kasun Rajitha has strayed down leg, he's been hit for four. England need him to do it a lot more.

Adam Kitchener: Seen it all before. Series won, lazy in the field and complacent with the bat. Number 1 teams shouldn't have this attitude.

Francis Edwards: That’s how Jason Roy plays the moving ball. And people want him in the Test side???

Patrick Brennan: When England's ODI team goes wrong, by god it goes wrong.
