Sri Lanka v England: Galle's last international cricket match?

England captain Joe Root speaking after winning the toss and deciding to bat: "You watch how the games unravel here and they can move on quite fast in the fourth innings. It might be tricky this morning.

"It's great to have so many different options we can turn to. It's a great opportunity for a few of the guys to come in and make their debut."

Mike Atherton asks how difficult it was to leave out Stuart Broad:

"That's never easy. What Stuart's done all over the world is world class. I wouldn't say he's been dropped. I'm sure Stuart will play a massive part on this tour."

This Test match is a farewell for Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath, the last man standing who played a Test in the 1990s.

He played with Attapatu, Aravinda de Silva, Arjuna Ranatunga - some real Sri Lankan legends.

They were also playing the last time I watched a Sri Lanka match, I think...

    There is NO Stuart Broad.

Broad, Alastair Cook and the injured Jonny Bairstow are the men who drop out from the last Test against India in September.

In come Rory Burns, Ben Foakes and Jack Leach.

A long team huddle before the toss with three presentations taking place.

Former Surrey batsman Mark Ramprakash presented the cap to Surrey captain Rory Burns and England wicket keeping coach Bruce French gave the cap to Ben Foakes. There was also a special presentation to mark the 75th game for captain Joe Root.

But no cap for Joe Denly, so he’ll have to wait his turn for his test debut.

It has been 12 years since England last played a Test match without Alastair Cook walking out to open the batting. We know they will get pitches that are going to spin a lot - and Sri Lanka won their last Test at Galle, against South Africa, by 232 runs so you need real strength in the top order.

What they will miss most is Cook's resilience. Cook playing in conditions that are not easy. Cook with his patience and discipline.
