Right, we're going to leave you for the day.

Jack Skelton's report on an excellent day's cricket is over here.

And there's plenty of action tonight from the Women's World Twenty20, with Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh from 20:00 GMT.

We'll be back at 04:00 tomorrow morning for day two. Until then.

There will be some concerns for England - they can't constantly rely on the middle-order to bail them out of trouble.

But Sam Curran is a real find for the tourists. He looks so calm at the crease.

Seeing the way Leach was causing problems at the end, I can't see Sri Lanka getting more than 150.

Sam Curran is the quintessential modern cricket player. Never seems to be ruffled or awed by the occasion. Whether it was against India over the summer or now in his first tour to Asia, he has delivered game-changing performances with both bat and ball. As cool a customer as you would like while playing with the tail and a nippy bowler to boot. A genuine all-rounder!

I think England have gone beyond what is a good score here.

Sri Lanka fell apart towards the end and look there for the taking. They dragged themselves off at the end, looking like a team that knew they have had a bad day.

England, at 89-4 and 134-5, were in danger of making a real mess of what was a good toss to win.

But first Jos Buttler counter-attacked, then Sam Curran timed his innings to perfection to drag England over the 250 mark. They were helped, too, by some dreadful tactics from Sri Lanka.

Curran is a player who reads situations better than any other player in the England team currently. He's got the knack of getting the side out of holes.

Well. That is a very good day for England, thanks to Sam Curran.

With the way this pitch is spinning, 285 is a cracking first-innings score.

That's your lot for the day.

Another peach from Jack Leach, spinning past Pushpakumara's outside edge.

Oh! That's horribly close, Pushpakumara completely turned over by a delivery that straightens on him. It somehow misses everything - bat, pad, stumps - to bounce just in front of Ben Stokes at slip.

  13. SL 26-1published at 11.1 overs

Dimuth Karunaratne takes a single off the first ball.

Jack Leach hit the stumps in the eighth over of the innings - this is the earliest an England spinner has bowled someone out in the first innings of a Test match since at least 2001 when records began.

  15. SL 25-1published at 11 overs

    Karunaratne 18, Pushpakumara 1

Pushpakumara covers up in defence and almost rolls the ball onto his stumps.

He sees off six balls, though, and Karunaratne will have to see out the last over.

Penultimate over of the day. It'll be Moeen to bowl it.

More men around the bat for Jack Leach, and nightwatchman Malinda Pushpakumara plays an extravagant sweep shot for one.

I thought nightwatchmen were meant to face most of the strike...?

    Well, what do you know.

Technology shows that the lbw shout from Moeen would have been umpire's call on height.
