India have beaten Australia by six wickets in the first one-day international in Hyderabad.

Kedar Jadhav was the hosts' hero, scoring 81 in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 141 with MS Dhoni to see India to their target of 237.

Usman Khawaja was the only Australian to hit 50 as the tourists struggled against India's pace attack.

    Final scorecard here.

  2. Eng 58-3published at 11 overs

After all that kerfuffle, Ben Stokes gets a new willow and gets off the mark with a single.

  3. Eng 57-3published at 10.5 overs

Eeek. New man Ben Stokes has a mix up with his skipper after he slices to gully and starts to run on the misfield. Eoin Morgan sends him back and Stokes has enough time to turn and make it home easily.

Stokes isn't happy with his bat and calls for a new one from the dressing room.

    Hales c Hope b Brathwaite 23 (Eng 57-3)

The bounce does for another England batsman.

It's short from Carlos Brathwaite and Alex Hales' eyes light up, unfurling another cut shot.

But the ball is closer to him this time and a bit of extra bounce sees it flick the top edge on its way through to wicketkeeper Shai Hope.

A vital wicket for the hosts after Hales looked to have been settling in on this pitch.

  5. Eng 55-2published at 10 overs

Eoin Morgan's cover drive? Yes please.

Another superb stroke from the England skipper through the gap and away to the fence.

He then slices not quite where he intended square through the leg side but finds enough space to run two.

A far more sedate powerplay for the tourists today but not a terrible start on a tricky pitch.

  6. dropped catch

Hales dropped on 17published at 8.3 overs

Too short from Carlos Brathwaite and Alex Hales cuts it away firmly for four.

Replay show Shimron Hetmyer actually got his fingertips to it at point - it was hit so hard that he couldn't get his hands completely across and set in time.

A very, very tough chance but a chance nonetheless.

Early bowling change for West Indies, with Sheldon Cottrell struggling a tad today.

Carlos Brathwaite is into the attack...

Eoin Morgan unfurls another lovely cover drive, not quite picking up four this time but still finding a big enough gap to scamper two.

Alex Hales is settling into his innings more now - hitting Sheldon Cottrell for two fours before taking a single off the last ball to keep the strike.

The big screen at the ground has replayed Buttler's cheeky salute to Cottrell in the last match - if he gets another wicket, we'll see the two go head to head again sooner than England would have planned

  12. Eng 33-2published at 6 overs

    Hales 7, Morgan 6

Nice! Delicious straight drive from Alex Hales for four. Easily shot of the day so far.

Nice part two! Eoin Morgan sweetly times a drive on the up through the covers for four more.

Big over for England - 11 from it.

  14. Eng 22-2published at 5 overs

Sheldon Cottrell has just done his finest Steve Harmison in the 2006 Ashes impression, the ball slipping out of his fingers as he goes to release and slinging straight to second slip.

It's a no ball because it didn't land on the cut strip and a free hit.

But Alex Hales misses with a big swipe.

There was also an appeal against Hales for caught behind down leg but nothing doing and it was signalled a wide.

An eventful over but only two runs from it, both extras.

The bit of extra bounce from Holder did for Root there.

    Hales 2, Morgan 1

Eoin Morgan taps a defensive stroke into the off side and gets off the mark with a single.

Alex Hales nudges another to leg and Morgan is then beaten by Jason Holder pushing across him.

Much, much more in this pitch for the bowlers so far.

Joe Root has made an absolute Horlicks of this.

The pitch is offering plenty of bounce and that makes the tall Jason Holder particularly dangerous.

No margin for error with lofted shots then but Root makes a crucial mistake - neither trying to hit his uppercut for six nor trying to keep it down.

As a result he's pretty much given Sheldon Cottrell catching practice at third man.
