That's an excellent shot - they are strong boys and have big bats.

Oh my goodness, what a shot by Jason Roy. I don't even know how to describe it.

The ball lifts up higher than Roy perhaps expected but he goes with it and launches the ball high over the covers and into the stands.

A bit like a baseball swing but at 45 degrees higher than that. Remarkable.

These two are looking greedy - they fancy a big score. It's a decent pitch, even if one or two deliveries are sticking in.

Rik Andrews: Get Roy off strike, we're all here to see YJB aren't we?

They are both lights out, Rik!

  8. Eng 39-0published at 7 overs

Jonny Bairstow pushes into the gap through wide long-on to scamper a couple before tickling round the corner for one.

Jason Roy stays leg side of the final ball and clips it to wide mid-off for a single.

  9. Eng 33-0published at 6.1 overs

Jason Roy flashes hard at the first ball and edges it straight through where first slip would have been.

He gets three as Faheem puts in a fine diving stop near the fence.

I wonder how many of the people inside the ground today were disappointed when they realised Jofra Archer wasn't playing!

Martin: Sorry Stephan, I believe Durham is the most picturesque ground in England with a magnificent castle overlooking the ground.

  13. Eng 30-0published at 6 overs

Jason Roy tucks off his pads to square leg for a single before Jonny Bairstow takes one as his slice to backward point is only half-stopped.

Good over from Faheem, just two from it.

  14. Bairstow punches down the ground for fourpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 11 May 2019

He's hit three more fours since, but Jonny Bairstow got his innings going with this punch down the ground to the fence.

  15. Eng 28-0published at 5 overs

    Roy 10, Bairstow 17

No glove on this one! Shaheen bangs it in short and Bairstow springs into the pull shot, thwacking the ball away for four.

Big over for England - 12 from it.

The pitch seems quite slow - with little bounce or carry: not what you usually see at the Rose Bowl.

  17. Eng 24-0published at 4.4 overs

Shaheen zips one past the outside edge but then strays too straight and Bairstow clips it crisply through mid-wicket for four. Excellent balance.

Four more as Bairstow gloves a short ball fine round the corner and away to the fence.

There are three games left in the series, so England might rotate to see which combination works best as a group. But from what I've seen of Archer, he's got that something special which will win you a game.

Just a hint that England were getting bogged down and that hint is all Jason Roy needs to react with the first six of the match.

In the slot from Faheem and Roy skips down in anticipation before lofting expertly over the long-on boundary.
