  1. Eng 9-0published at 3 overs

Another good over from Shaheen Afridi, inducing a couple of leading edges from Jason Roy.

The second of which slides past Afridi's hand down the ground for a couple.

    Anderson & Dagnall

Of all the things you expect to see in TMS box, Jimmy Anderson having a lesson on how to play the bass guitar from Charles Dagnall is not one of them.

You imagine England's top eight today will be the top eight they go with in the World Cup - Roy, Bairstow, Root, Morgan, Stokes, Buttler, Moeen, Woakes.

  5. Eng 7-0published at 2 overs

Faheem Ashraf to take the new ball from the other end. He averages 191 with the ball in six ODIs in 2019 so far.

He gets a bit of nip back into Jason Roy, with the England opener inside edging into his pads.

Tight line from Faheem, with Roy only able to work a single to mid-on off the final ball of the over.

You very rarely get a bad pitch here - certainly in international cricket. You're generally looking at 300-plus. I'm surprised Pakistan chose to bowl first actually.

  7. Eng 6-0published at 1 overs

    Roy 1, Bairstow 4

Jonny Bairstow punches nicely down the ground but Shaheen Afridi gets a mitt to it to prevent a run.

Bairstow do so again and this time it's wider of the bowler and races away for four. Delicious shot.

  8. Eng 1-0published at 0.1 overs

Left-armer Afridi goes over the wicket to the right-handed Roy, who clips into leg to pick up a single and get himself and England off the mark.

Jason Roy takes guard. Good to see his stellar opening partnership with Jonny Bairstow resume today.

Shaheen Afridi to bowl the first over.

    Here we go...

This might be controversial, but it's Saturday morning and I'm happy to lob some grenades. Southampton is the most picturesque, most beautiful international ground in England. There, I've said it.

Yes, it can be tricky to get to, but it's worth the journey. The bowl shape turns a cricket ground into an amphitheatre, no one, even on the back row, is too far from the action and the leafy surrounds give the feeling of a country estate. I'm a fan.

Here come messrs Roy and Bairstow striding out to the middle.

Pakistan are having their pre-match huddle.

Looks a belting pitch - will it be a run-fest?

Jofra Archer is in the final World Cup squad. To rest someone after a couple of games tells me they’ve made their decision.

Arjun Singh: Utterly disappointed by the non-inclusion of Archer. Almost anyone else should have been dropped so we can see more of him - especially on a flat pitch where we’re likely to need pace! Disappointing.

  17. Root on World Cup hopespublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 11 May 2019

The burning question this summer is whether England can finally win a World Cup. Joe Root was asked it this week... and he's backing Australia!

    (I'm kidding of course).

  18. Postpublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 11 May 2019

You'd say that is England's first choice batting line-up from 1-7 and probably what they will go with for the World Cup opener against South Africa on 30 May.

The bowling line-up is the bit that still needs to be settled. And on the evidence so far I think Jofra Archer will be at least in the final 15-man squad. Chris Woakes is also likely to be in England's first-choice XI.

A big day for David Willey and Liam Plunkett here.

  19. Full teamspublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 11 May 2019

England make three changes from the first ODI - opener Jason Roy returns after his back injury to replace James Vince, Moeen Ali has recovered from his rib problem to replace Joe Denly and David Willey comes in for Jofra Archer.

England XI: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett.

Pakistan make one change, with leg-spinner Yasir Shah in for fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who has a viral infection.

Pakistan XI: Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Asif Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Hassan Ali, Yasir Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi.

  20. No Archer for Englandpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 11 May 2019

The big team news for the hosts is that Jofra Archer has been left out for the returning David Willey.

Have they seen enough of Archer to know and are they resting him for the World Cup now?
