Chris Woakes will continue for a little while.

Babar only tapped that. It was a lovely piece of cricket. He is a talented young player.

  4. Pak 19-1published at 4 overs

Babar Azam has just met a David Willey delivery with what is essentially a defensive push, and the ball has absolutely raced back down the ground for four.

I'd fancy a bat on this, and I'm useless.

  5. Pak 14-1published at 3.3 overs

Babar Azam does well to keep an inswinging Willey yorker away from his toes, somehow getting enough bat on ball to nudge it past his off stump.

Babar darts through for a quick single before another full, swinging delivery wrongfoots Imam-ul-Haq.

Today is Eoin Morgan's 198th ODI appearance for England.

He's now the all-time leader for the country, going above Paul Collingwood (197).

  7. Pak 12-1published at 3 overs

There are some flats that hover over the Bristol ground and give those sat out on the balcony one of the best views of the action. Lovely stuff.

Nice and tidy from Chris Woakes, pinging a couple of short deliveries down, and Babar Azam works a straighter ball away to collect the only single of the over,

When I played here, it wasn't that long ago, it was one of the biggest outfields in the country. It's one of the smallest now.

  9. Pak 11-1published at 2 overs

Speared a touch wider from David Willey and Imam-ul-Haq is tempted into a flaying, and loose, drive outside his off stump.

The ball flies through to Jonny Bairstow, keeping in Jos Buttler's absence, and a shorter delivery rounds off the over.

  10. Pak 11-1published at 1.2 overs

A more convincing boundary from Imam-ul-Haq, leaning on Willey's second delivery, and the ball races down the ground for four.

It wasn't clean but it was cool! Root's hands were so relaxed that it just bobbled up.

That is a relief for England. They have seen what Fakhar can do and it's a bit of a relief for Woakes too who struggled at Southampton and hasn't had much cricket.

    Fakhar c Root b Woakes 2 (Pak 7-1)

There's no century for Fakhar Zaman today!

This is a lovely delivery from Chris Woakes, just finding a little something off the pitch, and the ball nips away from Fakhar as he tries to drive. A thick outside edge goes to Joe Root at second slip, who juggles it once, juggles it twice, and then clings on to give England their first wicket.

  14. Pak 7-0published at 0.4 overs

Fakhar Zaman, a centurion up in Southampton, gets his innings up and running with a lovely cover drive for two.

    Edge - and it's four!

England have got two slips waiting but Joe Root, diving to his left, couldn't get near it. Imam-ul-Haq got squared up, his arms in a tangle, and a thick edge ends up bouncing away for four.

    Right. Let's have some cricket.

The batsmen are out there. England's fielders are lurking. And it is beautifully sunny.

  18. 'The back spasm felt disgusting'published at 12:57 British Summer Time 14 May 2019

England opener Jason Roy on recovering from a back spasm: "The back actually feels way better than it did before, so I should have had the injection earlier.

"It [spasm] feels disgusting. It grabbed on to my sciatic nerve and kind of ran down the back of my left leg and I couldn't quite straighten it.

"I've had a muscle spasm before, but this was a bit worse. I knew I had the medical staff around me, and they reassured me that kind of issue could resolve very quickly."

Joe Denly has been thrown the shortest straw in terms of bowling on this ground with the short boundaries but he's just got to grasp his chance. There's talk of Liam Dawson and he's the person I'd want in the World Cup squad if Moeen Ali or Adil Rashid go down injured. Professional sport is brutal and Joe just has to take his chance here.

On the one hand, it's great that England have such strength in depth that they can rest someone like Jos Buttler and still have such a good batting line-up - Stokes at four, Moeen at five, Morgan at six...

That said, on a small ground, with those tempting short boundaries, my word, Buttler would have been terrific fun.
