There are too many moving parts.

I'm worried about Burns more than anything because I rate him. He looks so out of form.
Marnus Labuschagne scored two tons for Glamorgan against Worcestershire in a first-class match recently. Australia have been smart. They've picked batsmen who have been over here working in county cricket and can handle English conditions.
Excellent name, too.

Marnus Labuschagne is the unknown talent England need to watch out for. He's been wonderful for Glamorgan.

The team that Australia have picked has got Justin Langer and Steve Waugh written all over it. They will be in your face.
Well, it's good that England's batsmen are in top form.
Oh, wait...

Kumaran Ravendradas: This could be the strongest bowling attack Australia have ever sent over since Thomson and Lillee. Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Pattinson are their heavy bombers and Siddle is the stealth jet.

I would be amazed if Australia play Siddle at Edgbaston.

I can't think that the ball won't be swinging around this summer, so England will be in the game whoever they pick.
Ah, the birthday hat-trick at Brisbane!
Stuart Broad reviewing the hat-trick delivery was the most Stuart Broad thing in the world.

Siddle is going to be key for Australia. His control will be crucial with Cummins, Hazelwood et al - who are destructive, but can go round the park if they miss their lines. Just no more hat-tricks Pete please!

Archer's side issue has been around for a while. It has to be a risk, throwing him into his Test debut. If any bowlers have got any kind of issue, history tells me they will probably wait until the second Test.

Will Jofra Archer play at Edgbaston, or Chris Woakes, or both?
From an England point of view, Jofra Archer will play for Sussex tonight in the T20 Blast, which will give us - and the selectors - a chance to see how his side is holding up.

I don't think Starc or Hazlewood will play at Edgbaston. I think it will be Cummins, Pattinson and Siddle as the three seamers.
So by the looks of it, an Edgbaston reception will await Cameron Bancroft, David Warner and Steve Smith next Thursday...

This is very much an Australia side who are street fighters. They will be tough. They have picked a team who will play well in English conditions - and they have done over the past two months.
Also, no Alex Carey after all he did in the World Cup seems... harsh? Matthew Wade has been in form but Carey looked so good, and I'd back him to score more runs in English conditions than Wade.
It makes me happy to see Peter Siddle back in an Ashes squad. And moderately scared for England.
I mean, that pace attack - Siddle, Josh Hazlewood, James Pattinson, Mitch Starc, Pat Cummins, then Michael Neser waiting in the wings...
