  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.1 overs

    McCollum c Root b Woakes 11 (Ire 24-4)

    Ireland are teetering.

Another superb delivery from Chris Woakes, full, forcing James McCollum to play, and he drives at it, feet moving nowhere. It flies to Joe Root at first slip, who takes a slight step back to take a comfortable catch.

    The Ireland balcony look gutted.

England have a wealth of good bowlers as do Australia. Don't book any tickets for days 4 or 5 in the Ashes.

What is the lowest scoring Ashes series on record?

  3. Ire 24-3published at 9 overs

    O'Brien 4, McCollum 11

Kevin O'Brien is, thankfully, okay to continue, and Stuart Broad pounds down a rather wide, friendly bouncer to get things up and running.

Grant Kennett: Calling it now, game over. England will crawl to a victory they won’t deserve in the slightest. Cracks limply papered over in time for the Ashes...

The players are taking a drink, so here's how the three Irish wickets fell.

    That was a fearsome blow.

  8. ouch!

    Ire 24-3published at 8.4 overs

A bouncer from Stuart Broad, and Kevin O'Brien ducks straight into it!

Oh, ouch. That came at a nasty angle and O'Brien, trying to crouch underneath it, has taken an almighty whack on the side of the helmet. In fact, the helmet has got a massive dent in it. On comes the physio.

Kevin O'Brien isn't moving his feet at all really. That should've gone through extra cover not third man. But you take them.

  10. Ire 24-3published at 8.3 overs

James McCollum is beaten all ends up by another Stuart Broad lifter, but he calmly pushes a single through point to add another one to the total. They can't afford to just let England bowl at them here.

That's not timed from Kevin O'Brien, feet stuck in glue, but he gets enough of an outside edge on the ball to pick up a streaky four.

Tom Brook: I actually wouldn't mind Stuart Broad saving 'The Stuart Broad game' for later in the summer, if I'm honest.

    Target 182

Ooft. Kevin O'Brien plays all around this Chris Woakes delivery and the ball flicks the back of the bat and drops just, tantalisingly, short of Joe Root at first slip.

That is a good ball. It's moved back up the hill but crucially the previous one swung the other way.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 7.3 overs

    Stirling b Woakes 0 (Ire 19-3)

    A two-ball duck!

Oh, this is a great ball! Fine, fine bowling from Chris Woakes, going a little fuller, and the ball sneak between the big gap between Paul Stirling's bat and pad and absolutely smashes his stumps. England are well on top.

  18. Ire 19-2published at 7.2 overs

There's still an hour to go until lunch. Can Ireland make it there without any further loses?

Not if Chris Woakes keeps bowling like that! A terrific ball from the England man, getting some lift off the pitch, and Stirling fends rather tamely at it.
