  1. Eng 132-7published at 44.1 overs

After being given the treatment by Chris Woakes in his last over, James Pattinson is replaced by Peter Siddle.

Siddle starts with a ball that cuts back nastily and flies over the top of the stumps.

"It's all gone quiet over there," chant the England fans in the direction of their Aussie counterparts.

  3. Eng 132-7published at 43.3 overs

It looks much more difficult for Moeen Ali at the other end with Nathan Lyon ripping the ball into the footholes outside his off stump.

Chris Woakes looks like he doesn't want to leave the ball.

Australia need three wickets to win

    Hahaha. You've got to chuckle.

Chris Woakes chases a wide one and gets his third boundary of the over.

Who said it was difficult to bat on this pitch?

This is terrific batting from Chris Woakes. A real rearguard effort.

  7. Eng 128-7published at 42.4 overs

    And again!

Woakes gives Moeen a little punch of the gloves down the pitch.

There's a long, long way to go.

That's a marvellous shot for four!

  9. Eng 124-7published at 43.3 overs

Errrm. Four more to Chris Woakes. It has been said many times before. Get him up the order!

This is a wonderful, crunching pull shot off James Pattinson.

  10. Eng 120-7published at 42 overs

    55 overs remaining

    Cummins is brilliant, isn't he?

The TMS team are wondering whether Jimmy Anderson will even come out to bat in this situation. England said yesterday he would bat if needed but is there really much point?

Just let him lie down and hope he gets back fit again for the end of the series.

Feeble, half-hearted, limp - and most tragic of all - so, so predictable.

England skipper Joe Root is currently on the England balcony looking rather glum. He'll be having flashbacks to that miserable tour down under.

The crowd meanwhile continue to enjoy Chris Woakes' knock. He guides the ball to the third man boundary.

Lack of leadership to blame? The one-day team was turned around by leadership, a good captain and some clear direction. Surely the Test team needs some of the same? These aren't bad players.

Yesterday I said that surely Smith can't score a hundred in every Test. England just have to make sure they win the Tests when he doesn't.

Neither of these sides are particularly good with the bat. I think every Test of the series will come down to which team has the one player that stands up to be counted on the day. Smith has been the difference this Test. Simple as that really.
