So Australia are ahead in an Ashes series in England for the first time in 14 years.

England had plenty of chances to put themselves right on top in this match but couldn't take them.

Steve Smith dragged Australia brilliantly back into the game and then the Aussie bowlers did the rest.

We now have a nine-day break until the next Test begins at Lord's on 14 August. England have plenty to think about.

Joe Root has been speaking about James Anderson's injury too.

    Until next week, goodbye.

I'd love to see Curran back in the team instead of Denly. I'd have him as the 4th seamer. Let Stokes concentrate on his batting and bowl a few bombs in short bursts if needed.

Back to Gary Ballance. His technique was ripped apart by Australia last time.

Mark Steel: Ballance has an average of nearly 38 with 7 50's and 4 100's in 23 Tests. Given his recent form and age (29) this could be the time to revitalise his career, maybe worth a shot at number 4 We've seen players come back better for being dropped before in Hussain & Butcher.

Will there be changes to the umpiring for the next Test as well as changes to the England team? Joel Wilson is due to be the third umpire next week. He hasn't had the best of matches.

I wonder if Root had said he'd bat 3 before the Ireland Test, would they have gone with Denly still for this test? He was originally a top 3 pick. Northeast has to be given a go surely? Consistently scored runs for years. Can't make the same mistake as they did with Hildreth and Denly and not pick him or pick him too late in his career.

Roy's style is more suited for middle order so let's switch it around.. Root up to two, Denly to three and Roy at four. Archer in for Jimmy (while recovering), Leach in for Moeen (sorry but it's time). More attacking field. And Rooty, lets not forget Woakes can bowl please.

Archer will play a Sussex Second XI match this week in a bid to prove his fitness.

He has been recovering from a side strain. He was on the field at times during this Test so you'd think he's close to being fully fit.

More from England captain Joe Root at the presentation...

On Jofra Archer’s fitness, he said: “We have to wait and see how he shapes up as well. We don’t have to make any shot gun decisions. We have got plenty of time before Lord’s. It is important we are clear on how we want to go."

John Wells: It doesn’t really matter who England pick for the 2nd Test or the rest of the series, Australia are just better in all areas than England. All these so called experts saying drop him, pick him etc the standard of county cricket just ain’t there anymore.

The difference between Vince and say, Denly, is that he has the talent and doesn't apply himself. Denly has just looked out of his depth so no point persevering. Would surely be Vince's last chance though.

Can we stop with this nonsense that James Vince will ever magically morph into a proper Test cricketer?? Too fragile, even with a few decent shots. He's had his chance, time to look elsewhere.

Can't believe how few people are calling for the return of Sam Curran. He has done almost nothing wrong in his Test career so far. Picks up runs and wickets at crucial moments in Test matches - something that we've failed to do in this Test.
