  1. Aus 222-7published at 85.4 overs

    Smith 84

And he unleashes a cavalier hoick over mid-wicket at Woakes, T20 style for four. Remarkable.

This is extraordinary. Smith is coming back to the crease.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 85.2 overs

    Siddle c Bairstow b Woakes 9 (Aus 218-7)

A nibble outside off stump and Siddle is on his way.

  4. Aus 218-6published at 85 overs

    Cummins 14, Siddle 9

Smith still has his pads on as he stares at the action from the dressing room, surely he is not thinking of coming back in? Broad continues with a probing line but Cummins is untroubled.

Pete Robertson: Sickening blow to the neck from @JofraArcher - great to have an @englandcricket bowler up at 95mph+ Hope @stevesmith49 is ok, looked horribly similar to Phillip Hughes at the replay. Best call to retire hurt, cricket comes second sometimes.

  6. Aus 218-6published at 84 overs

    40 behind

Another maiden for Woakes. Got to feel for Archer in this moment after being the bowler that has caused a nasty injury to Smith, or two in fact. The cameras are focusing on him but he looks to be taking it all in his stride. Smith looks ok too thank goodness, he is watching on from the sidelines.

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Stuart Broad is a great bowler but it is almost like Test cricket has returned to normality now.

  8. Aus 218-6published at 83 overs

    40 behind

Broad replaces Archer in the sunshine and has three slips and a short leg but Cummins is right behind the line again, 49 balls of defiance in his innings so far for the tall fast bowler.

TMarie: Without a doubt, not a single person booed Smith off in the Mound Stand. Most here gave him a standing ovation. Really hope he is OK though. I would love to see more of this Archer/Smith battle.

Just a thought. That ball hit Smith very close to where Philip Hughes was. His helmet doesn't have any of the new style neck protection. Is the game doing enough to make sure players have proper protection against balls hitting the neck?

Now if you're just joining us, here is the most dramatic moment of the series and it saw the world's leading batsman Steve Smith felled by a hostile delivery from England's new fast bowler Jofra Archer, who bowled a spell of eight overs 1-31. Smith, who had earlier been hit on the arm by Archer, has retired hurt on 80.

  12. Aus 214-6published at 82 overs

    44 behind

A tidy maiden to begin with for Woakes. Bright sunshine at Lord's but a huge expanse of menacing dark cloud in the distance, although no rain is expected today.

Tom Hague: Jofra is a fit young man but not sure about bowling him 29 overs out of 80 when Woakes and Stokes have bowled 21 between them. Root putting all England's eggs very much in Archer's basket.

  14. Aus 214-6published at 81.1 overs

    44 behind

Woakes shares the new ball and nips one back to trap Siddle on the pad but England decide against gambling on their final review and they are proved right as replays show it to be heading down the leg side.

Ian: I dare say England can expect some chin music from Mitchell Starc in the next Test.

  17. Aus 214-6published at 81 overs

    Cummins 14, Siddle 6

Two slips, a gully and a leg slip for Archer from the Pavilion End, nipping them back into the ribs of Cummins at 90mph. The Australian sways away from a short one and he is playing this hostile bowling very well, the final ball flying down the leg side for four byes.

Pat Cummins must be thinking 'why did I bowl him all those bouncers?'

  20. Aus 210-6published at 80 overs

A beauty from Leach into the footholes from over the wicket and it spits away from Cummins. Siddle flicks one away off his pads for a boundary and it looks as though Archer is going to continue with the new ball.
